I know what I don't want, so by using the serlock holms method, I should be able to eliminate everything but the best! Not Ibanez Warwick or Peavey Not a stupid shape Not more than £1500 I really like the look of the schecters that are around, and some of the ESPs look sexy, and it'd be really nice to have a skinnier neck width than the average because my hands are not huge The question is - where can I try a bunch of these out? I haven't had much luck even though I'm based in london (the bass cellar really is terrible) Obviously I want to try a bunch out and buy the best, but it's not like there's a 6-string speciallist around here! All the best.[/quote] In fact they have a pair of Peavey TL-6's at the moment which are well below the OP's target. Thru neck, fantastic thin neck, flamed maple body and macassar ebony fingerboard. Carbon fibre rods in the neck and headstock overlay. I've tried them and they're both awesome super-P-bass tonally (plus active/passive). XB26354 Posted February 11, 2010 Share Posted February 11, 2010 TRB-6's were the first Japanese incarnation back in the 1990's They were replaced by the TRB1006 made in Korea - it was discontinued near the end of 2008. Yamaha only makes the mega-expensive TRB-6P and the Patitucci signature now so it's second hand only. Highly recommended basses nonetheless. They still come up now and again for under £500, which gives a great excuse to buy 2 (or 3) basses instead of one. Only thing to warn about the TRB 6 II (don't know about the 'proper' TRB) is that it's 35" scale and wide string spacing. I'm about to put it up for sale on here as I need the money towards a repair on my car, it'll be £80 but I won't ship. Could be a possibility just to get your hand in? El Bajo Posted February 16, 2010 Share Posted February 16, 2010 +1 on the Yamaha TRBs. I got the Yamaha RBX JM2 but it was a close call as to which one to buy, I went for the RBX purely on looks. Also Peavey Cirrus is worth looking at and is great value. On another note it maybe worth buying a second hand one just to see if you like it. Some people just don't take it.
