I was following the progress, but the forum disappeared, so I have no idea whether it came to anything. In noizewood Italy the guy is selling stuff so I think they are working.... I guess this is not a great bass but maybe with some changes here and there you have a better instrument than a squier or a crappy mexican for the amount... I just need to know the diff between alder and mahogany woods, if mahogany is the typical of gibson I dont like them for low ends, really muddy for me...I prefer the "twang" of fenders Thats what Im asking..... That said means it's nothing of real quality. Some of those basses looks pretty good, but they're cheap and equal quality. tischbein: They still exist and are selling instruments. For the money they were very good value, but the fretting was adequate but only just. The precision and Jazz were very heavy, being made from mahogany. I liked the 51 it was very punchy and l wish I had kept it. I also bought a white 335 clone with a bigsby, again really good value and not a bad guitar at all. bumnote Posted October 12, 2009 Share Posted October 12, 2009 The squier is better finished, the 51 pickups on the squier [I have a classic vibe 50s] and on the bach are remarkable good. The butterscotch finish on the bach 51 doesnt look particulalrly good. I would be tempted to buy a natural mahogany bach keep the original pickup but screen it with copper tape, and spend some money getting the frets done if required. First they said no, special order only, then a few weeks later got an email asking if I still wanted one. By then I'd gone off the idea. Maybe worth an email of anyone wants one. Delberthot Posted October 13, 2009 Share Posted October 13, 2009 The Warmoth single coil P in my avatar has a mahogany body and quarter pounder pickup and it never sounded muddy - it can go from deep and low to bright, zingy and modern but never muddy - I did also use 500k pots though which will make a difference. spinynorman Posted October 13, 2009 Share Posted October 13, 2009 (edited) I've had several mahogany basses, including a Gibson IV, an Epi Elitist EB3, both mahogany throughout, and an Ibanez Jazz copy which was mahogany body/maple neck. I wouldn't describe them as muddy, but there's something about the wood that makes them feel very different from basswood/maple or alder/maple. Springy was the word I came up with for the Gibson IV, like the whole thing was vibrating with the strings. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it seems that you're either going to like it a lot, or really not like it at all. The NonReverse TBird is now in the Bach catalogue, though it says Sold Out.
