uk_lefty Posted November 6 Posted November 6 Quick q for anyone who has had this done... I am considering buying a very beaten up vintage bass. At some point in the past someone has done a very bad defret. I think the board is unusable and would want it removing and replacing with a nice slab of unlined ebony or wenge. How much would I be spending on an operation like that, ballpark, please? And are there any recommendations? I have emailed Shuker but expect he's a very busy chap, any other recommendations gratefully received. Thank you Quote
Richard R Posted November 8 Posted November 8 Robin at @Manton Customs work is great. I've seen his basses at bashes and shows (and he has a thread here in affiliates) I have no association with him, or any idea of the cost, but someone to talk to. 2 Quote
Steve Browning Posted November 12 Posted November 12 (edited) I had the fretted fingerboard replaced with a rosewood fretless board, locally and expertly, for £150. Edited November 12 by Steve Browning 1 Quote
JohnDaBass Posted November 12 Posted November 12 John Shuker replaced a fret board and truss rod on a US Fender Stu Hamm Mk1 . Absolute fantastic work. John's work is in great demand so be prepared to have neck fixed by slotting in to his busy bass build schedule. Worth the weight!!!! Quote
NancyJohnson Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago What bass is it? If it's Fenderesque, save yerself a few £££ and take a punt on (more or less) any Chinese seller on eBay. Quote
