Shylock Posted Thursday at 19:23 Posted Thursday at 19:23 I have just bought a rather nice G&L CLF Research L1000 2018 and the truss rod nut appears to be missing. The person I bought it from was the original owner and, having just messaged him, he thinks it has always been missing and he has never adjusted the truss rod. I attach a picture and all appears there is the thread. It is a dual action truss rod and there is comment on the internet that there should be an integrated bullet that is welded on? Can any one help or point me in the right direction- thanks Quote
Mudpup Posted Thursday at 19:28 Posted Thursday at 19:28 A few years ago i had a USA L2000 that had a rounded off truss rod nut. I think it was a 4mm allen key one. The Bass Gallery repaired it easily without removing the rod and i seem to remember they welded a new one on 1 Quote
3below Posted Thursday at 21:46 Posted Thursday at 21:46 Dual action rod should have the bullet welded on, earlier G&L basses have a removable truss rod nut and mixed reviews. I would take it to a luthier who knows what they are doing. I have two USA G&L basses - one since 1990, totally solid, the other (circa 2006) decided that the trussrod needed to make a break for freedom. You have the bonus of a rosewood fretboard, if a trussrod replacement is needed it is do-able. 2 Quote
neepheid Posted yesterday at 07:26 Posted yesterday at 07:26 Yeah, sorry mate, that doesn't look right - this is my 2020 CLF L-1000... 4mm hex iirc. Quote
Shylock Posted yesterday at 08:07 Author Posted yesterday at 08:07 Thanks and after further investigation it appears the nut has sheared off the rod which explains it. 1 Quote

All G&L's I've owned were older (my current ASAT Special is from 2001, it's already got a 4-bolt neckplate but still has the Bi-cut neck with compression style truss rod and bullet nut). Quote

I had mine sorted by Jon Shuker, now better than when it was new. @Andyjr1515 has documented truss rod replacements, I can also personally recommend @Manton Customs, however I am sure there are similarly skilled luthiers near to you. 1 Quote

Thanks and I have since been in fruitful contact with the seller who has agreed to reimburse me. He has already contacted the G&L distributor as in theory he has a 10 year guarantee but unfortunately they have recently gone into administration and getting a fix from them is doubtful. He plans to get it fixed and contact local luthiers but I will pass on the contacts you mention so thanks for those. Once fixed he will give me first refusal which is good because apart from the truss rod it ticks a lot of boxes for me. Quote
