Hi All, ☺️

I appreciate these have only just hit the UK market via Andertons or Thomann, but has anyone bought one or even tried one yet?

I've been saving up my pennies for a headless and quite fancy going for the 5 string version (rather than going for an Ibanez EHB or Cort Space).

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Been meaning to go over to Andertons and have a noodle. Possibly something I could take to a pub gig leaving my Status at home….

 

Cant see anyone else stocking them 🤷‍♀️.

600 mile round trip for me to get to Andertons 😥 so I envy anyone able to 'drop in'

Maybe you just need to order one and if it doesn't suit, send it back, Steve. I did that once with Andertons and had no problems.

These do look interesting... Love the form factor of my EHB 6er. Would love to have a play to assess the multi-scale curvature and the sound of course. Look great too:

If they're as good as my V7 they'll be great, but I'd need to A/B test it with a Cort Space. I wouldn't want to jump in feet first with a fan-fret only to find that I didn't get on with it.

Yeah, I kinda of thought about it but don't like messing folks around. I've bought several basses off them before, the most recent being in June. I guess there is no reason why I shouldn't give it a try 🤔However I'd really like to know if someone has played these and whether they're any good?

Full disclosure - I haven't played one but based on the Namm videos and Johnny Dibble's recent video reviewing a 5er in this series, as well as the broader hype about Sire, I'd have no worries on quality.

 

That said, I'd be more alert to whether the form-factor works for you. I have a similar Ibanez EHB 6er and it's probably the multi-scale aspect you need to try to see if it works for you. Particularly, if you like the dusty end for chords and soloing as it is a different experience taking some getting used to. Around the 8-12 fret it's not very different and at the low end, a boon albeit some stretching required.

It could just be the online pictures, but the monorail bridge looks like it sticks out a long way. Far more obviously than alternatives like the EHB

Thanks for the reply. I've watched both these videos already and apart from these, as yet I don'believe anyone else has posted a review or demo - hence me turning to basschat forum 😊

Thank you too for the advice regarding multi scales generally. I have to say, it's exploring both headless and multi-scale that appeals.

I own 3 V7's (1x5 and 2x4's) plus an M2. I love em'. I think Sire are very good value. Wouldn't hesitate buying another. The M6 looks exciting and intimidating (in 5 string). Love to know what they play like?🤔 

Have to say there always seems to be used Cort Space's up for sale. Folk don't seem to hang on to them for too long

They make an excellent backup bass, and they sound fantastic. Very hifi, clean sound. Easily small enough to keep in the boot of your car when you need a backup or quickly need a bass. I've owned two, a 5 and a 4. I've never sold one because I didn't like it, instead usually because students always want to buy them off me! Would have another one in an instant. In fact, once my Walnut-Graphite Jazz is complete, I'll be looking for another one. My last Space 4 was a demon with one of the fastest necks I've encountered this side of a Status.

I has a quick 5 minutes on one in Andertons last Friday, my first time with fanned frets. 

I felt comfortable with the frets after a few seconds. I didn't have to acclimatise, and I was pleasantly surprised to not be playing two frets higher up the neck than I wanted, which has happened when I've tried headless basses before.

It felt comfortable, but I hardly ever play sitting down, so I'd like to see how it feels on a strap.

The sound was quite clean and hifi, which I like, but I found the tuners quite difficult to use.

 

It's definitely worth trying one if you can.

Thank you very much for the review. Much to take on board. Thanks too for the photo. Tell me, when you went along, did they have much of the M6 in stock available in store? I know Andertons can keep a lot of their gear in the warehouse, so to speak.

I’ve not done the three hour round trip (;-)) as they only seem to have that sea green one in stock. I’d like the tobacco. But if I ask them to get one of those in from the warehouse I know I will feel bad if I don’t buy it! 😂
