Richard Jinman Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Just rented a car and realised why DBs and stick shifts arenāt exactly compatible.Ā 3 Quote
Burns-bass Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Iāve had this before. You can prop up the bass using removal blankets. It does mean you canāt look at a passenger (maybe a good thing!). Ā Safe driving.Ā Quote
Richard Jinman Posted July 11 Author Posted July 11 So long since Iāve driven a manual it came as a bit of a shock. I was thinking BassChat could run a competition to see whatās the smallest car you can transport a DB in. No bungee cords holding down the rear hatch obviouslyĀ Quote

No bungee cords holding down the rear hatch obviouslyĀ Ā When I was living in the city centre and opted not to own a car, I used to use the cheapest rental I could get for any out of town gigs. I think the smallest was a "Chevrolet" (Daewoo) Matiz. I did have to prop up the scroll to clear the gearstickĀ Quote

Ā Can get one in a mini this way: 1 Quote

And the gig was up on the moors in Cumbria during a particularly icy spell - that wasn't a fun drive... 1 Quote

NickA Posted July 13 Posted July 13 (edited) As proven at the last em bass bash, I can fit: Ā A 4/4 double bass, two electric basses and 450W of amplificationĀ Ā In a (manual) Skoda Citigo š. Ā no drummer tho.... Edited July 13 by NickA 1 Quote
velvetkevorkian Posted July 15 Posted July 15 I've had a 4/4 5 string and 3 people in a Nissan Micra back in the day (not very safely š¬Ā ) Quote
Huge Hands Posted July 15 Posted July 15 I used to play in a band with a lady whose husband was a DB player and she told me he used to transport his DB in a 1999 Fiat Punto.Ā I think it ended up looking worse than the OP's for gearshift access. Ā As a 17 year old I used to transport my 4-piece drum kit and hardware in my original shape Mini too! Quote
The Guitar Weasel Posted July 20 Posted July 20 I very often use the passenger seat of our little Rover 25 - seat reclined a bit - bass upside down and secured with the seatbelt. Works a treat. A bit more of a pain to get in and out, but not much. I can carry a double bass, our PA, and my Bass amplification - and if someone else carries one of the PA speakers - I can carry a back seat passenger too.Ā Ā Quote
