joedonohoe22 Posted July 2 Posted July 2 Does anyone have any insight into Guy Pratt’s bass tone in the first of the three barn jams with David Gilmour? Obviously he’s using a Precision bass, but I’m wondering whether he’s gone for rounds (with tone rolled off) or flats? It has a lot of depth and fatness without sounding at all brittle. police squad Posted July 2 Posted July 2 when I saw him at the bass show, someone asked him about flats. He scoffed at the idea so it'll be rounds on his bass 2 Quote
HeadlessBassist Posted July 2 Posted July 2 (edited) Yes, it's rounds. Sounds like he's got the tone control about 50% down. Nice sounding 70's/early 80s natural Ash Precision too. It's not a bass he's documented in his videos - probably one belonging to the studio or someone else. Edited July 2 by HeadlessBassist 1 Quote
Hacksawbob Posted July 2 Posted July 2 I was nerding out on the backline, Looks like GP is going through some sort of ashdown head with a VU meter. Then I noticed someone is using a mic'd Yamaha Cabinet, (behind Gilmor) would that be the keys do you think? Or is DG going through it? unusual choice if he is more likely some sort of valve amp to the left of it. , I'd be curious to know what the Yamaha is. Quote

I’m in a dilemma myself as I’ve just got a P bass and am torn between using the rounds or my Thomastik flats 🤔 Quote

Jazz Flats for if you're in the studio. 1 Quote

It looks like the Yamaha cab is being mic’ed with an SM57, which would suggest it’s being used for Gilmour’s guitar? Quote

KK Jale Posted July 2 Posted July 2 (edited) Believe that's a Yamaha RA200 rotating speaker cabinet for DG's guitar. Edited July 2 by KK Jale 2 Quote

Rotary speaker indeed: It's the middle amp that gets my GAS going though Appears to be a Magnatone 260. Edited July 2 by LeftyJ 1 Quote
