Looks good, is it the same thing with a battery and controls (and a built in drum machine)?

Looks like the GP-100 without the expression pedal and, interestingly, on sale for a tad more than the GP-100!

Apparently yes. Same bit rate/quality etc, although a slight increase in dynamic range i believe.

Ive been eyeing up the GP-100 for a while, but i don’t want anything that has an expression pedal making it larger. The GP-50 looks ideal. I use my GP-5 all the time now, but do sometimes wish i could make small tweaks on the fly without needing my phone.

Out of curiosity, which bass amp/cab you use in the GP-5? What do you connect that to - DAI or amp?

Basically, I just watched the video below. It's pretty straightforward to follow (it's good to have an understanding of MIDI implementation first but not essential) and it doesn't take too long.

Make sure you check out the MIDI implementation in the back of the Valeton manual so you can assign the correct CC / PC number to the chocolate depending on what you want the pedal to do. I have my 2 most commonly used patched on the first 2 buttons and then patch up and down on buttons 3 and 4. I also set up some additional patches on a 2nd bank which is easy to do.

Ha this is the frontman/guitarist in one of the bands I play in 😁

He says Valeton are sending him one, so it’ll definitely be coming soon 😁

So I bought one of these wondering what all the hype was about….. I’m still wondering to be honest?

It’s decent for guitar I guess, but bass? The presets are ok at best, and I’ve come up with a couple of my own modulation variations, but I’m a bit underwhelmed by it so far?

I’m old, and haven’t really delved into NAMs and IRs etc…. (I actually didn’t know what that meant), so I’m wondering weather this thing might not be my bag…. maybe some Xmas experimenting might make it grow on me.

What were you expecting? Why did you buy it?
It could well be you don’t need it.
I got mine because i wanted an Ampeg vibe through the combo’s i use at rehearsals, and wanted a bit of OD and modulation all in one small box.  The GP-5 and now 50 provide exactly what i need. I don’t bother using either at home as i use other things.

They aren the best ive ever had, and are quite limited compared to the Zoom's and Helix etc, but as an all in one package it fits my needs perfectly.

I gigged my little rig at the weekend at a venue in London.

It would have been perfect apart from the fact that I needed a Wah for two songs 🙄

That being said, It worked really well and was complimented on the tones I got from the rig (GP5, Choc + and Weeping demon wah.)

@Rayman I thought the same initially, but once I started tweaking EQ, and bass amp models, I found that it came good for me. With the eq and amp/cab options on offer within the unit, it's clearly been designed with the bass player in mind - perhaps not primarily, but definitely there

Really enjoying mine now I have it. I think I prefer the dirt in this compared to my GX-100. It's a shame you can't stack dirt though. And the Mesa amp sounds great with a bit of EQ changes to suit the bass. The reverbs and delays aren't as good as my Boss unit though.

If you set the pre dirty, you can stack it into the dist block, and also use the drive from the bass amps.

On mine I'm using the bb preamp into the gain of the mesa amp block. but for me the bass drive is rubbish - as I can't seem to get enough low end for my taste

That bass drive is an odd one. Its so hot. I use it as my dirt but with the gain at 8 and mixed quite low.

That sounds fine for what it is, some extra effects, as long as you make sure the octaver never gets switched on!

Yup, I've found the octaver poor, but luckily the mix is adjustable and can add just a tad.

GP-50 review by my bandmate Lee 👇 here for anyone who’s interested, looks good value still and much better having a screen and two footswitches - just the fact it does NAM

captures makes it worth the price alone - some excellent captures of stuff like the DCX Bass and the Jad Freer Capo which can either save you a lot of money, or give you a chance to try the sounds before committing serious money to them. Saying that I’m buying an Anagram on Monday 🤣

Cheers. Watched it earlier. Good review. Totally agree 100% with everything he said.

Yeh I mean I know the guy so I’m biased, but he would (and has) genuinely say if a product is shit, and isn’t afraid to point out issues even if they’ve sent him the pedal for free, so it’s nice for me to see it from the other side, and hope the bass reviewers I watch are similarly credible

I only use reviews to find out features really, and don’t go by general recommendation (especially as i want it for bass and he is a guitarist), but as I already had the Gp-5 and now the GP-50, based on its features, Its nice to see others also thinking the same.
i was going to keep the GP-5 as a back up but i really can’t see me needing it anymore, especially as i also got the Sonicake pocket master.

I've been reading the manual for the GP5 and it looks like it can do what I want, but I thought I'd double check just to be safe.

If I put it in the song list mode (a-z) can I use the foot switch to cycle between 3 presets? Basic amp emulation, amp with -2 pitch shift, amp with +1 pitch shift, back to the beginning? And then I can long press to use the tuner? And it can do all of that whilst running on usb power?

That's totally possible. I don't think much of the pitch shifter or octaver though... Both are very warbly/chorusy and not really useable. The low end of these modellers all seem to have the same issue with pitch based effects. Maybe a decent one is too DSP intensive?

Ive never used that mode, but I'll give it a try tonight and let you know if it cycles back to the first. It should.

This would just be a backup solution for me. I have a board with a quad cortex and power supply, wireless, tuner, everything. Just wondering what I would do if that went down or I lost the whole thing or whatever. At the moment I take a passive DI box, but I wouldn't have a tuner and I have started being lazy, using the digital transpose for three songs on the set list. It occurred to me that transposing whilst already stressed by an equipment failure, or detuning without a tuner aren't good plans.  I have looked at taking another pedal (I own a GP100) for instance but they're actually quite big and they also need a power supply. The GP5 appealed because I could put it my bag and run it off one of the many phone chargers that can be found in any space inhabited by humans in 2026. I even take one in my gig bag already.

I can’t see any way of doing only 3 patches. The manual (as far as i can see) says you can cycle through all 100, or any bank of 10. Haven’t read it all though so might be wrong.
You might be better off getting a Chocolate plus controller which adds 4 foot switches to the GP-5, or the GP-50.

It looks to me like you can just assign a,b,c to three patches but to be fair that's not crucial, I can always scroll back.

Thanks both!
