tayste_2000 Posted May 6 Posted May 6 This week, the ZeroFive Audio Lowrider and the Sushibox FX Neptunium. Pointless in a different way to my 442 comparison where both pedals were discontinued around 10 years ago, both of these are out of stock (almost constantly), produced in very small batches when they are produced and then subject to import duties and shipping from France or the US. But anyway, maybe this will kill your gas for either of them. Was going to just make a post for this video, but best to have a thread lumping these all together as I think I’ll be making more of them. 6 Quote
tayste_2000 Posted 18 hours ago Author Posted 18 hours ago Comparison of various Octavers An early Cog T-16 Sonicake Octaver MXR Bass Octaver Deluxe Pearl OC07 Zoom MS60b Bass Octaver Zoom MS60b+ Analog Bass Octaver My thoughts. For those that don’t know the Pearl OC07 is the original Jojo Mayer Nerve octaver. It sounds identical (as these old pedals can) to a Boss OC2. The Sonicake Octaver is an OC2 clone. When I compared it to an OC2 I couldn’t hear the difference and once again here, not trying to destroy the resale of my pedals I can’t hear it either. The Cog is quite unique sounding compared to everything else and has to be felt to be believed. The MXR is the most versatile but the so are both of the Zooms. It has some noise when idling but doesn’t appear to come across in the videos (at least until I add layers and layers of gain) Once you put these in a synth chain most of the differences disappear. I’ll be keeping the Sonicake (because they are so cheap they aren’t worth selling), probably the MXR as I find it the most musical and varied and then both Zooms because the MS60b isn’t worth very much and the MS60b+ is really really impressive. If I was playing a lot of synth focused music, I’d keep the Cog and have it next to a Sonicake or MXR Vintage Bass Octaver and then the MXR BOD if I was doing any blended with clean stuff. Anyway, enjoy 3 Quote
tayste_2000 Posted 17 hours ago Author Posted 17 hours ago A really pointless one but I have 2 settings I like on the Deco. I’m not a huge fan of the saturation, it’s nice but everything on my board is Saturation so it’s just redundant but the modulation is a really nice subtle doubler that gives a nice space to things, or this really musical pitchy warble. Anyway, I tried to recreate it in something cheaper. I’m very concerned that I’ll be able to recreate my whole board in a pedal I bought for £65 😅 1 Quote
tayste_2000 Posted 3 hours ago Author Posted 3 hours ago A run through of my pedalboard that didn’t even make it a full day. Mainly my changes are from this video and the octave shootout. I either don’t enjoy or need the Capo, and the deco I’ve been able to replicate on a pedal I can drop mid chain when I feel like it. My preference currently is to keep the MXR octaver. Quote
tayste_2000 Posted 3 hours ago Author Posted 3 hours ago A slightly modified Kasleder Freaky Stone Boost & Fuzz My thoughts are, I’ll never put this on a board it can live on a 9v battery and I’ll just drop it at the front of my chain whenever I feel like it. This is probably one of my favourite pedals but it does heavily benefit from an amp sim/ir. I don’t think I’d run it live without least the Element Quote
tayste_2000 Posted 2 hours ago Author Posted 2 hours ago Last one for a while, Zvex one off Concert Bass Mod Super Duper. This is a two channel boost (Super Hard On), the Jive is apparently based on the SHO. This one is voice for more low end and to try and replicate a Sunn Concert Bass. I went hunting for one after playing through a Sunn Concert Lead at a jam session. It’s a little hard to control in a video but I can set it on a board for a solid 3 sounds that then drive other pedals, primarily the Beta Mk1. Again like the Kasleder, I’d probably have this with a battery and just throw it down in front of the board when I fancy. If someone ever tells me I have backline of a big old tube amp, my rig will be just this pedal 😅 My main takeaways after all these little videos are how much I love the Punchline, Beta and Cream Pie and the amount of subtle flavours I can coax out of them.
