So, I basically only play Rickenbackers these days, not that I have loads. I have a Fireglo 4003 from 1999 that is my main bass until I started travelling.

Last year I bought a 2009 4003 in Mapleglo, which after Fireglo is my favourite colour.

Then, bored, late at night I came across a 1984 Mapleglo 4003 on Guitar Center.

I don’t know what more to say, it’s basically the same bass but older. Neck shape is different but every Ric has always been different for me.

It’s incredible

The 2009 and the 1984.

Lighting is different but there is just a really nice aging and yellowing to the ‘84

I also prefer the inlays on the older one, probably because they’re the same as my Fireglo one.

Wavy Grovers! Split pickguard! Extra tailpiece screws!

Lovely example of an early 4003, and it looks pretty much unplayed!

Looks lovely!

Color, inlays and headstock look better. Screams "get me out of this case"! 😄

I wish we could compare the two side by side, but that ship has literally sailed.

Enjoy it, that's a keeper.

Very odd to see grovers on a 84 when they ditched these around 73. Very nice looking bass btw.
