LowB_FTW Posted April 29 Posted April 29 Specifically the ball end of the strings, they look like they've just been pinned into the body. How is this done? Is it a peg like on classical guitars? Is it a screw? I saw the image in a random post on my Fb timeline, I searched for a more accessible version but couldn't locate it so screenshot the one on Fb. Mark Quote
Downunderwonder Posted April 29 Posted April 29 Either an AI special or what appears to be pins inserted into the body laying back at an angle, catching the end bobble things. 1 Quote
floFC Posted April 29 Posted April 29 I found another one with a bridge (?) like that, but the vast majority of the Skjold basses have more traditional ones, including the new range. Those look like pins. https://reverb.com/item/63509553-skjold-cathedral Quote
LeftyJ Posted April 29 Posted April 29 They look like modified Hipshot D-style bridges, with different saddles and forfeiting the usual tailpiece: 4 String D Style Bass Bridge Really interesting idea! 1 Quote
Bassassin Posted April 29 Posted April 29 A reverse image search chucks up a few Reverb listings & a bunch of pics from a TalkBass Skjold thread, showing 4 & 5 string Drakkars with this string anchor system. No clear pics of exactly how it works, but it does appear to be pins, similar to how guitar strings are anchored to a Bigsby trem system. Quote
LowB_FTW Posted April 29 Author Posted April 29 After creating this thread I carried on looking searching to see if I could find an answer and I came across the same TalkBass thread @Bassassin posted above, but I never got the chance to post back here after finishing my shift. The post in that thread with the same string retainers as I posted here is from 2020, so likely not AI, but it's a 104 page thread! Not gonna read all that. I never considered pins from the back of the bass. I just found it a really neat system. Mark Quote
Hellzero Posted April 30 Posted April 30 (edited) I had a few Pete Skjold basses including a Whaleback like the model shown above and these are excellent basses, not AI generated. The anchoring system was something he tried years ago, but did continue... He is inspired by JP Basses like our own @skelf and even bought the rights to Jean-Philippe Ferreira (the guy behind JP Basses) to continue his work under the Denoncourt series, when JP decided to stop making basses. You can write Pete an email: he always answers. Edited April 30 by Hellzero 1 1 Quote
