2eq SR4 input jack where to buy (uk)

So my 1994 SR4 has finally given me jack problems.  Leads feel a bit loose in the socket and cut out intermittently, which isnt too clever when gigging.  It’s the plastic box type needed.  I’ve been on the musicman site but when you put it in the basket it says it’s not available for international shipping. Strings and things haven’t any in stock and they can take months to get stuff in as I assume they wait for a bulk load of stuff needed to save shipping costs.  Is there anywhere else where I can get a replacement?

cheers

eB*y uk?  aliexpr*ss?   ...they appear to be offering 'plastic box' type 1/4" sockets

(Also...

Have you checked that the existing socket is tightly secured?  A loose socket can sometimes move in as the lead is inserted, causing intermittent connection to the jack plug.  Just an idea...)

There's no reason to stick with the square plastic type just because that's what is currently in there. I'd aslo go with a Pure Tone stereo jack. It would be an upgrade over the stock one.

Thanks for the replies. I knew there were alternatives but my knowledge of what would work with an active bass is limited and so I was unsure what alternatives would do the job, hence I was looking for a like for like replacement.

I’ve had it apart and everything seems secure.

I’ll  give the pure tone jack a try as I can’t find a like for like replacement anywhere.  It only a few quid so worth a try.  Many thanks 👍🏼

Apolgies if you don't need this. Thought it might be useful just in case.

For most standard active basses, you will generally need a stereo jack socket, otherwise known as TRS (tip, ring sleeve). The usual wiring tends to be that the tip is the signal, ring is the negative battery, sleeve is ground. When you then plug in a normal mono jack cable, it grounds the battery (as there isn't a ring on the mono cable), completing the circuit and turning on the preamp.

If it isn't clear which solder tabs are which, you can usually follow the bit of metal you're looking at to work it out. Or, if you have one, use a multimeter to check for continuity between the tabs and connectors.

Is this the mid-90's one where the lugs of the jack are soldered directly onto the circuit board and one of the lugs is diagonal to the others? There's a lot more to it than simply being a plastic box. There are very few jacks which fit that without some substantial messing around. WD used to do them but postage was an abomination.

I'd try to buy the correct one from EBMM and be spending my time looking at mail forwarding services from the US.

You need a stereo ring tip sleeve RTS to 'switch' on the battery if active.

The pure tone are multi contact, as in 2 for tip, 2 for sleeve - so make a nice positive connection, but are only TS.

Stereo switch craft?

Pure Tone do have TRS versions, too, readily available. The question came up just a few days ago. :rWNVV2D:
