DR Hi-Beams - Cheapest Source?

I've used DR's for nearly 10 years now....

I've stopped buying them, not because of cost (although that's got out of hand lately) but because they don't shrink wrap the boxes any more.... every set of DR's i've purchased in the last year has been dead out of the packet....

Until they start shrink wrapping them again i'm not wasting my money on dead strings !!

I've asked String Busters and Strings Direct to give DR this feedback, not holding my breath though

Thanks for the interesting info. I wonder if that is happening to other strings too because I've had a set of D'Addarios die in a ridiculous space of time, I mean they are literally turning black now in the space of several weeks!! I have been playing a lot but that's just taking the piss!

What are you using instead?

Why not tell them yourself? [email protected]

I had a set of ebay with two 65s in and the 45 missing. I emailed DR and they were very swift to apologise and sent me a new full set. So their customer service for me was second to none.

How cheap they are depends on the exchange rate, obviously.

I've used both, and they're both quite reliable.
Definitely cheaper than I've found, thanks!

Do you get hit with much tax when they come in, or are you able to sneak them past customs?

That's where I've always got my DRs from but they're not so cheap anymore, given the exchange rate, etc..

Everything's gone up with the exchange rate collapse - I paid £23 for DR fatbeams 40-100 last year. Now they're £30. I like the strings, so I just go on paying. Luckily it's just for one bass. The rest of mine are on Status Hotwires 30-90 or 30-115. Even Hotwires have increased in price this year.

Yeah, you're not kidding.

In the true spirit of being an utter cheapskate, I think I'll have to resort to a bit of string boiling!

hope it helps -- supposed to be much much more effective, and better for the strings.

THEY CAN'T BE BROUGHT BACK FROM THE DEAD. :)
Well maybe not, but using the old meths tube solution has allowed me to use two sets of DR Lo-Riders for well over a year now on my 4 string, just by alternating them in the tube.

The trick is to never let them quite get to absolute death before they get a dipping.....

Two days in the pot with a shake of the pot once a day works miracles!

I thought I'd initially avoided the taxes but got hit with £20 a few weeks later!

However the strings still came in at £22-£23
