Hammer_ Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Hey. Iāve taken ownership of a stinky old Hohner bass which is I am going to try and bring back to life.Ā Ā Should I try and clean up the pick ups, and if so whatās the best approach. Or do you guys think new pick ups would be a better option. But I donāt know how to swap them because they wiring runs through the body and I canāt see how to re-run the wiring.Ā Ā would love your thoughtsĀ 2 Quote
Pea Turgh Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 A thorough clean and polish would do so much. If the pickups still work, then Iād leave them in. Ā Maybe sandpaper on the pole pieces to get them shiney? Ā Just donāt use wire wool! Ā 2 Quote
ahpook Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Interested to see how this turns out, my first bass was a Hohner Arbour in the same Sparkle finish. Ā And yes....not wire wool ! 1 Quote
Hammer_ Posted April 10, 2022 Author Posted April 10, 2022 The bridge isnāt very good quality. The chrome is bubbling. Iāve cleaned it up ok but Iām considering changing the hardware to black.Ā 1 Quote
Pea Turgh Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Take it off and buff it with Brasso? Ā Might make it look better. My inclination would be to make best as-is before chucking money at it. 1 Quote

Iāll post some more pics tomorrow. Got most of the rust of the pups now. Was fairly easy by using a scotchbrite pad and salt/lemon.Ā Quote

PaulThePlug Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 (edited) Bridge Saddle Adjust Allen Head Screws... Spalding Fastners of the bay... Also did the Epi LP guitar saddles... Soak the saddles in plus gas or WD40 for a bit if old screws are stiff and rusty to stop em wrecking the threads in the saddles tacking em out...
