In the late 1970s I was in a band with a guitarist who played his Les Paul through a WEM PA40 and sounded great.

I recall a set of Coloursound mics that were all different colours. Sort of psychedelic.

Quite so, and I was a beginner..! Very rough and second-hand, too, with very duff stands, mis-matched wrapping, ancient skins... Happy daze, though.
