Lakland 55-01 vs 55-02

Recommended Posts

I've been considering various Lakland basses recently, and I was wondering what makes the 55-02 better than the 55-01? Different pups and the 3 band pre-amp are basically the differences I believe. If one could afford the 55-02 does that automatically make it the better option?

Do they have the same body/neck/feel? As someone who doesn't play live, I tend to choose instruments based on how they feel to play rather than the whole sound angle (speaking very broadly here!)

Any opinions?

Same neck, same body. The only differences are the pickups/preamp and knobs !

Have you listened on here to check out the tonal differences ?
Thanks.

That's pretty useful. Not many manufacturers go to that much bother on their website!
I think lakland try to go that extra mile

I had a 55-02 and it was a gorgeous bass. I decided im not a five string player but i still have a couply of lakie basses

On day im going to get a 44-02

Good luck in your hunt, Im sure you wont be disapointed whichever way you go.

Well, i have had both and have to say, i preferred the 5501, i found it cut through the mix better than the 5502...Also, there is a lot of love for said bass on talkbass...the pickup sizes bart mk1/p2 gives a lot of options for upgrades along with the preamp.....plus, if it's good enough for mononeon it's good enough for most...Oh, and the most comfortable 35 scale bass i have played.

I had a deluxe 5501 with nordstrand fat stacks and a glock preamp. Sounded awsome really nice bass. Also had a 5502 with LH3. Both were heavy hitters. Both well made basses. If i wanted a good 5 string without the huge expence i would go down the 5501 route again for sure.
