Not good at those prices. I keep looking at the RST basses on BD's website. My Euro is ok weight wise but I'd love to try one of these and should my band ever get its act together and start gigging, I'd like something really lightweight.

As for the input socket. My Euro needs a new one desperately. What ones do you recommend? There's loads on eBay but I don't know if they'll be any good or not.

Here is a great Black Friday deal from PMT Bristol - RST for £1772:

Can anyone enlighten me as to what Empresswood exactly is. Sounds a bit suspicious to me.

Sorry just Googled it as would have been sensible before asking. Genuine tonewood good for basses mainly grown in China

Paulownia.

It is perfectly legit. Sometimes also known as Paulownia. Tree is known for being fast-growing and the wood for being very light.

Other manufactures (e.g., Sandberg) also use it.

More about the tree: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paulownia_tomentosa

Sandberg's founder Holger Stonjek briefly talking here about Paulownia:

I road tested one of these at Bristol PMT yesterday. Lovely feel, nice and lightweight and a real joy to look at - beautiful! Here’s the but….the tone left me a bit underwhelmed to be honest - mostly a bit thin and one large fat vibe, very little in between.

Shame really, but that was my own opinion - I’m sure others may assess differently. I came away loving my recent purchase of a lightweight Zon Legacy even more.

I don't get that on my RST, but obviously these things are personal (and mine is a 5, maybe different). It sounds actually fuller than my euro, but not so even across the board, much more manageable as a general bass.

When I get round to fixing my jack socket it is one of my main gigging basses.
