cd_david
I bought an acoustic Control Corporation 406 (2x15) on eBay. It looks considerably healthier in the listing than in real life. However after a 590 mile round trip that started with the idea of just re grilling it, turned into a complete restoration. I’ve done a couple of 406s and many other cabs so wasn’t too daunted by the idea. I stripped the tolex to find some water damage on the base and it was still slightly damp so I let it air dry for a little over a week. In the meantime ordered the tolex and grill cloth and took the handle and castor brackets to be blasted and powder coated. Once dry I sanded the old glue and bits of tolex off. Then filled the rough and damaged parts with 2 pack filler. Sanded again, painted the baffle and re grilled or. Today I Set about re Tolexing the cab and to my delight it was as painless as the stripping was. All tolex on and the cab reassembled inside of a day. The only thing I need to complete it is some new chrome corners.

SpondonBassed
Very tidy. I would probably have ended up with wrinkles in the tolex. Did I spot two different drivers?
bumnote
Originally I think they had white domed drivers, with u shaped magnets on the back. I had one of mine repaired by Wembley loudspekers but they couldnt replicate the white dome.
cd_david
They are both original Eminence drivers with U shaped magnets, however one has been re coned by Wembley Loudspeakers.

I was looking at images found with the search string "eminence speaker U shaped magnet" to see what the U shaped magnet looks like. I found very little to clarify the image in my mind's eye. I am assuming that this is the sort of thing. It was very common to see in valve sets back in the day.
cd_david
Yes that’s the style. I have to put new bolts on the drivers this week so will take a picture of the actual drivers.

bumnote
Partway through my ownership of my 406 I was given a company car, and no matter how I tried, I couldnt get the 406 in. To my undying shame I had it cut in half, and used it for several years untill I got a bigger car and got it re glued together, As mine had also had a wembley recone and 406 narrows were not that common, I just wondered if it was my old one.
