MARCO MARCUSTICO alternatives

Hello guys,

I'm playing bass gutar and upright, but this thing just blow my mind... I was allways fascinated by upright bass, but i just cannot play it as good as my native instrument - bass guitar. And Marco Marcustico bass http://www.marcoguitarsbass.com/index_archivos/Page381.htm looks like a best option for me. But i cannot find any of those for sale and I think I know, how much it costs, so, my question is - have you seen anything more affordable and easier to find, but with the same upright bass sound in bass guitar shape?

If this is an EUB, which I think it is, there are plenty of others out there to choose from. I believe Happy Jack was selling a KK BabyBass which was well received when he brought it to both the Herts and SE Bashes.

If it's an acoustic/ semi then again lots to choose from....some at stupidly low prices.

Not sure whether the bass you've shown, like many others, suffers from feedback, or how usable it actually is acoustically would be my concerns.

You might find that something like a Fender AE fretless does the job at a far more affordable price.

Hi there,

Not sure if this is what you're looking for....but it does both. Has a Pin that can be used upright but also happily plays sideways/normal bass guitar.

Might be worth investigating the Rob Allen Mouse and Takamine TB10 - neither are cheap.

On the cheap side, Uke Basses can sound suprisingly good.

That instrument isn't pretty but its an impressive sound. I don;t think that there is anything out there much closer. Rob Allens are the next best thing in my view but they don't have that same attenuated DB sound.

BTW I've spoken to marco about one of these before, he quoted 2300 Euros and 5 month build time.

I'm in the same situation, 54 yrs on fender bass, 3 on upright. SO, I went looking for one of these but I think they're out of production. I also looked at safran bass etc....I ended up with an Ibanez srh500F,  which while not exactly an upright tone, it sure sounds good in a jazz band when you can't or don't haul your upright. They are also extremely well made, albeit w/ that skinny depth Ibanez neck, very nice looking, light, fully adjustable bridge w/ piezo, and only $7-800 brand new...it's a steal frankly. I did a showcase yesterday and there were 2 other fretless acoustic players there on a godin A4 ($2G) and a citroen 4 steve swallow (10G) and many commented on how much better the Ibanez sounded.

Agreed that the Ibanez srh500F is a great bass - I use mine to rehearse instead of the acoustic double bass. With the action raised to tame the fretless mwah, it does the job nicely.

 

The Marcustico is at another level I think, sounds great, though it only sounds good in the vids when played more like a DB with more flesh on the string, not that good when plucked like an electric bass from what I've seen.
