Papabull
I'm really not trying to sound stoopid (or play Devil's advocate) but would appreciate your thoughts regarding putting flats on a jazz bass. 1.Is this taboo? 2.Can it work? 3.Does it make any sense? 4. Most importantly can i get that burpy sound from the the bridge pick up using flats? Your thoughts would be VERY welcome best wishes to all paul h

I always found the jazz too zingy and the flats subdued a lot of what I didn't like
JJTee
Pretty sure Flea has flats on his Jazz when recording?
mrtcat
I've had flats on a Jazz before and really liked the fatness of the sound. Definitely not taboo, it certainly works and makes sense to me. It may will undoubtedly tame the burpy bridge pickup sound a bit but to my ears that was on improvement.
kodiakblair
Seem to remember Jazz basses came strung with flats.
dlloyd
Joe Osborne (can't actually hear any bass on my work computer... I'm guessing it's still there)
Conan
Herbie Flowers? Also, listening to Ron Blair's work on early Tom Petty albums, I would say that he used flats on his (1964) Jazz bass. What is a taboo?
