Just bought a Paulownia wood Santander JB200, cheap as chips jazz bass with rear routing.

Basically wanted a Jazz bass that is as lightweight as can be. Going to be putting in a set of Wizard 64' pickups and TI Flatwounds. For £70 you can go far wrong.

I have owned a 7 String Santander bass before that was fairly good for the price. Hopefully this will be similar. I think it looks pretty smart.

Hello gents.

I have put up a video with a little bit of bad playing and a review of the ordeal!

In the video I am using the Wizard 64's with fresh TI Flats. The bass slightly under 6lbs in weight.

Thanks for the review - quick note though - no way of knowing what the fingerboard wood is like without cutting into it (or removing a fret) as it may be partially ebonized / stained. As long as it holds the frets it's good enough for 99.5% of players!

My only concern is with the neck joint - the structural integrity of the neck + body joint requires a solid piece of material on each side, and suitable wood screws or machine screws joining them together. Thank goodness it uses a neck plate (visible when you describe the neck finish) - without it it would be a risky prospect to string it with Steve Harris signature bridge cables!

Enjoy your bass. If it gets too battered it might be a good candidate for skinning - either with resin & cloth or even carbon fibre (if you're willing to spend more on carbon weave than the bass new!). Couldn't hurt with a "childs project" finish like that.

I was after a paulownia body as a second bass as my current Peavey Milestone weighs a ton. A bad neck (me not the bass) means Ditching the elephant ears and going for a 2L2R headstock. I have some Gotoh GB707s, not as light as Resolites or the Hipshot Ultralites but about half the weight of a traditional machine head,

Anyway I bought a kit that met the spec (but with a basswood body) but there is so much fettleling to do I am regretting it and wish I had seen your post six weeks ago,

Anyway thanks for the video even if it makes me regret my purchase.
