Bloc Riff Nut
Are there any bridges out therer with a built in mute. Rockenbacker and ernie ball have them. are there any others. I'm sourcing parts for a precision build and would definitely be needing some muting capacity. In Holland you have Elio Martin guitars that sell The Bass Mute, but I get no reply to my emails. rodney72a
Would this be an option? http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/accessories-c2/string-muters-c63/gruv-gear-gruv-gear-fump-bass-bridge-muter-dampener-p10306
ltownbass
I guarantee you will be disappointed by the GruvGear thing. Completely inconsistent dampening. I've got foam under my Gruvgear to hold it in the right place and a clip to hold it closed, clamping the strings, and it's still rubbish. I bought mine, as an experiment, thinking it's probably rubbish but you never know. However, the experiment would be pointless unless I tell everyone else it's a crappy solution to your problem. I've been trying to play jazz on bass guitar but instead I've just spent my whole playing with this stupid, glorified gypsy clothes peg. Beer of the Bass
There's a Fender Custom Shop P-Bass which has the mute mechanism from a Jaguar guitar installed, and Jaguar mute kits are quite easily obtainable. I've seen threads about this over on that other bass forum: http://www.talkbass.com/threads/installing-a-jaguar-mute-on-a-p-bass.1021488/ It looks quite neat but you do have to drill holes. Twigman
There's a kit available from Allparts to add a mute to a Fender vintage bridge - needs the bridge cover, mind http://www.allparts....string-mute-kit and they have the parts for the Jaguar kit mentioned above http://www.allparts.uk.com/products/mute-rocker-plate-for-american-vintage-jaguar-genuine-fender Edited October 20, 2015 by Twigman

Unfortunately no pic. Vintage Precision mutes were glued under the bridge cover.

Gnermo
Ellio Martina isn't out of business, he lives 5 minutes from my house, but I doubt he knows how to use a computer. Guy is old school. If you're interested I can call him and find out of he has some availible. Edited October 20, 2015 by Gnermo

Gnermo
Alright, he serviced one of my basses (new nut and a general checkup) a few months back. But I guess those several people are right You can also shoot "] an email, he's a dealer and co creator. Edited October 20, 2015 by Gnermo

A chunk of foam rubber also does the trick - I've used those scouring pads before also (scourer one side and sponge the other) - careful with your bass finish though - when I used one I put it on for certain tracks only and it's easy to put it in the wrong way up and scratch the bass.... Number6
I like foam under the strings at the bridge. I just leave it there all the time on my P
