Treating myself to a custom 5 string JB. De Gier is a wel respected Dutch luthier and he builds some incredible stuff.

Anyway, build has now commenced:
5 string
2-tone burst
Ash body
Maple neck
Rosewood fretboard
Blocks and binding
Lollar pickups
Passive with Vanderkley Fatboost

First pics just received, body cut and routed, now stained orange in preparation of the burst thing.

It basically is a circuit that boosts the low frequencies, useful when playing back pickup only. So passive with a little helper....

I'll be following along.

I'm off to find out what a Vanderkley Fatboost is :)

I had a little look on the De Gier website for an explanation, it's quite a good idea.

Good taste :)

I used to own one a Bebop 5, and regret selling it. I got the 1st second hand so now I could get it just the way I want it. Swamp ash for a little more open tone compared to alder. Bit more modern, the Lollars compliment the wood nicely.

Only - however long it takes - to go..... :)

Congrats! My main bass is a bebop 5 in exactly the same spec, and it's an incredible instrument. I still grin every time I pick it up :)

This will either become the neck or a cricket bat.

Love the look of De Gier basses. Not ENTIRELY sold on the headstock but I think it would grow on me!

Forgot the one pre-fretting, just block inlays and binding done...

2tone chosen as I thought it would look cleaner with the black pickguard...... I think it will :)

Looking good! Wasn't sure what I'd think of the 2 tone burst (bigger fan of that finish with maple boards), but it looks like it'll work well!

Can't fault your reasoning! I think it'll look HOT! Been drooling over the shoreline gold Bebop 5 with blocks on the De Gier website for days now!
