Recommend me a new stack!

I've been using an Ashdown MAG300 for the last couple of years or so, it has to be on full most of the time to be heard at practice, and gigs it needs DIing to be heard, unless the venue is tiny (which is every few gigs). It's had a good run but one of the speakers has started flapping/rattling and I need a new rig. I'm after a stack because a lot of the time a cab is provided and I've done my back in already! My main requirement is a f***ton of headroom, as I think I'm gonna get some sort of preamp/tone shaper pretty soon.

My sound is a bit of a wierd one, I play dead hard with fingers but it's a little less clanky than most other punk bassists I know. Sometimes use a distortion for fast bits and an EQ for dubby bits.

What do you guys think would be good?

If you want a to try and get similar sound to your current setup, maybe look for one of the Ashdown MAG 600 heads? Or look into moving up to the ABM heads. Lots of headroom available from the ABM 500 or 900 EVO III range (in my experience) and apparently even more from the new EVO IV range. You get greater control with the ABMs as well as you have either a 7 or 9 band EQ as opposed to the 5 bands on the MAG.

Or, if you are considering getting a preamp at some point anyway, why not look into getting a decent poweramp instead?

Bad back and ton of headroom, I`d be looking at Orange Terror (tho not too versatile) GK Mb Fusion 800, or Aguilar Tonehammer 500. Cabwise, well again looking lightweight, Barefaced, Schroeder, TKS would all get a look in.

Is the MAG300 a combo? Are you looking for another combo or are you after a head & cab?

Definitely Schroeder . . . But I don't know how available Schroeder cabs are in the UK. I love my Schroeder 2x10.

Schroeder cabs can be ordered via Schroeders website and the communication is good.

You could pop into a specialist Bass store and see 1st hand how the Neo cabs sound and weigh and also there is a 30 trial on a UK cab manufacturer.

I have gone lightweight and it's great !!! ( for your back )

VERY unusually there are two Schro 212's for sale at excellent prices on Facebook at the moment. One near Blackpool, one near Burnley.
Daft light and daft powerful.

How limited are you in weight of an amp? My CTM300 head is up for sale here and though it's 33kgs it's stupidly loud and has the most headroom I've ever had in an amp!

I have a Ashdown ABM 400RH ( weight 9kg) & two Ashdown Neo 2 x10 cabs ( weight about 40lbs each ) I've never been happier with my sound . I also have a Barefaced super 12T this is only 37 lbs , I have to cut the low mids with this cab to get my sound , But I like the height of the Ashdown stack & for me it looks cool.
