I think this is a "thing" on eBay now: put up a silly buy-it-now price in the hope that the bidder will think they're getting a good deal with an offer that's still over the going rate. E.g. Item X can be bought for £50; I put it up at £100, and when a naive buyer has a bid of £75 accepted they think they've saved £25!
