Trace Elliot sleeve

Another amp sleeve built, this one for basschat member 40Hz.

Simon (40Hz) had a Trace Elliot 1x15 combo with a GP12 amp, and the driver was on its last legs. After looking to replace the speaker with a more modern neo-equipped cabinet (MarkBass being favourite), discussions began regarding a re-sleeve for the GP12. The amp was removed from the redundant combo, and shipped up to sunny Cumbria for a spot of surgery:

The amp bolts into the combo from above, and is ventilated front to rear, which makes the sleeve fairly straightforward to construct. I started by making a top for the sleeve, with the mounting holes in it:

Nest step was to make a bottom piece to match the top, and some sides to suit:

Then the usual joinery stuff, gluing up, rounding over and dowelling the corner joints:

I also fitted repair (penny) washers inside the top of the sleeve so that the amp fastens up against these rather than just pulling against the wood, which would eventually compress. A small point, I know, but a useful improvement/enhancement.

Then it was on to a spot of carpet work, corner protectors, and rubber feet:

Then in with the amp, box it up, and send back to Simon!

All in all, a very straightforward and enjoyable project, and a great end result that ensures the Trace continues to be used, but with a shiny new Markbass cabinet! Job jobbed.

thank you please

I'm super pleased with Robin's work, the sleeve is built and finished to a high degree. Honestly as good as a Trace specific one. Absolute gent to deal with too!

Thanks Simon, glad you are pleased with it!

Have you tracked down a 4x10 cabinet yet?

I remember you describing one of your other projects as "comedy joinery". More of the same high quality comedy joinery here. Propper job.

Thanks!

Can't beat a bit of comedy, ha ha
