leschirons Posted January 6, 2014 Share Posted January 6, 2014 Didn't want to hijack Herman's 6 string Yammy thread so started this one. All I see over here are hundreds of JM2's for sale. All around the 500€ mark (some quite a bit cheaper) I'm not in the market for anything but why are these so cheap secondhand? Were they cheap new are they just not very good? I think it's the fact he doesn't use them now, they're 6 strings, a funny colour and they do have a very narrow string spacing I believe. I've never played one, but I am intrigued by them. geilerbass Posted January 7, 2014 Share Posted January 7, 2014 I used to have one. I got rid of it because it was too heavy and i wanted to move away from 6 strings. It was a very good bass for the money (around 600 quid, if i remember correctly), sounded awesome, played brilliantly, good neck etc. As with most Yamaha basses, the quality exceeded the price point. The going 2nd hand price seems consistent to me, particularly considering that basses from the Far East rarely retain the value corresponding to their quality. I had one for a while, only sold because I used my Yamaha TRB 6II more and that neck profile was more to my liking. String spacing on them isn't too tight, it's around the 17mm mark, Much larger than whatever he uses now, 14/15mm I'd imagine, since he uses 5 string bass necks on his Bongos! A guy in Aberdeen has an RBX JM2 and uses two TRB1006s, so Yamaha are doing something right. Would love a Yammy (an RBXJM or a JM2, or a TRB1006! charic Posted January 10, 2014 Share Posted January 10, 2014 I've never played the JM2, I have to admit I bought the 6JM based on the fact that I loved the look, knew I liked Yamaha 6ers (especially the TRB1006 mmm) and am a bit of a dream theater fan Soundswise... I can get pretty damn close to my Pbass with everything on full which is pretty much my default setting, it's quite versatile though! They can be picked up pretty cheap so keep your eyes peeled! [/quote] Yes, I saw those a little while ago. I think there's just a fretless left. The two fretted have sold. I thought someone on here said they weren't expensive new. They tend to pop up here for about 600€ for the two pickup 6JM. I think the French must have pounced on them all when they first came out as there seem to be about 15 for sale on various sites at the moment. Getting a go of one next week.
