Nodd Posted October 3, 2013 Share Posted October 3, 2013 Walking from the car to the front door the other night, Walkabout in official Mesa gig bag when....ping...clang! wallop! Clip on shoulder strap breaks, bag plummets, amp hits pavement! Had a quick look and check later, thought I'd got away with it, but, No! Cuts out in middle of next gig, comes back on, make it through gig, since then intermittent faults. I have contacted Mesa to let them know, and to ask for advice on service/repair. The gig bag was only 4 years old and only used for car to stage trips. I'd advise any of you fellow Walkabouters to have a look at the strap end clips, might be worth a cable tie reinforcement or summat. Any advice on someone who could be trusted to service/repair in the Brighton area? I have previously used M.J. Still, Portland Road., Hove for my other amps, he has been great, but this is a Mesa/Boogie! This is the best amp I've ever had, better than my long term Orange (from '75), Fender Bassman and the rest. Not a happy bunny at the moment. Hope that Mesa takes a honourable position (even though out of waranty) and help you get your amp serviced at low (or no) cost pretty fast. Material wears and tears, nothing lasts forever but having an amp damaged because of a strap clip is very hard to digest... good luck! I retired my WA bag fairly quickly and replaced it with something a bit more protective, with comfortable handles. Shoulder straps make me nervous. Hope you get it fixed OK. Just in case, plug a cable across the FX loop in case the jolt has affected that. They symptoms sound a bit like what happens when you get dirt in there. I also retired my Mesa bag right after I bought the amp and like WOT, replaced it with a very strong, semi-rigid, and good fitting computer case. Frank. I got a very prompt and helpful reply from Garey Noble at Mesa, as well as a reply from Westside the UK distributors, nothing from supplier Thomann.... Bottom line, all good now. On Garey's advice, I opened it up, tightened and cleaned everything and checked on the FX loop. Connected that across and cleaned. That was it ! Ran well at rehearsal last night, all night...phew... Bolo Posted October 15, 2013 Share Posted October 15, 2013 Any tailor/clothes repair/shoe repair/leatherworker/sailmaker etc could stitch a solid strap to a gigbag. Those clasps are always fashioned out of cheap metals or pvc plastic and will not take any sort of abuse. Even a puff of wd40 or siliconspray may triple their longevity!
