I currently have two ads floating about in various forms and it is quiet obvious that I'm no where near any of the aforementioned genres.

Only I have had several (interesting) for acts described as above. so whats this about?
All links I have been given are of indie bands.

If you don't want to play in an indie band, put something similar to what I put on my ad when I was looking for musicians to start my acid jazz/breakbeat/funk/house band...

"Not looking to play Indie, Screamo, Metal or Punk. I've played these genres before & now looking to do something different"

Every band here is one of those 4 genres, so if you don't want to play any specific genres, let the reader know.
I did get a couple of folk still contacting me to say "I know it's not the style you're looking to do, but we're looking for a bassist to play...", but they was understanding of a No.

I cant see what the problem is. If you get a reply from an unsuitable band, simply reply
by saying something like...."thanks, but not the type of music I am looking for".

Takes all of ten seconds to type. :)

That's not my problem at all, if anything I'm flattered.
My problem is what is a Blues, rock, jazz, folk band. As all of what info I've been provided with is of indie bands IMO of course.

A few of my bands fall into that range of genres, kind-of. Here's one of them.

Genres/labels are very subjective, you just have to listen to the music and see if its what you want to play. To me 'indie' isn't really a genre, many styles of music can be described as indie, which I would interpret as 'independent, or outside the norm', which is again entirely subjective.

That's more blues/country based on those videos. I'm guessing you are the bass player. Where is the singer from. Sounds like a tight outfit.

Fair enough, I see your point now. :)

In that case, all you can do is to ask for as many sample recordings of their material as they can give. If they are a covers band, ask for a set list and look up the songs on You Tube.

There's country in there for sure, but also rock and jazz. And soul and gospel, for that matter. The proportions of each have massive influence on the final sound, though.

Little Feat are another example, I'd say.

Soul and gospel maybe but jazz I'm not hearing to be honest. Who is the singer and where is he from?

One of the comments says it all -
All citizens should be required by law to listen to Lowell George and Little Feat 'Waiting for Columbus' album once before proceeding on with their lives. :D

The Jazz influence comes from a lot of the material we do, not necessarily how it's played (wrong notes don't count). There's a lot of trad jazz / New Orleans tunes in there, and the whole genre developed from the 50s jazz scene.

The singer is Peter Donegan, son of Lonnie.

Will take a look at vids when I het chance.
But for the mean time I have accepted a 'audition' for a band that describes itself as in the OP.

Singer is female and the drummer and her have had experience with another band, but not sure what is quiet happening there. But void be promising.
