Hi there.

Up for sale is my Vintage Icon Jaco fretless.
I bought it in September last year but it's had very little use due a new baby arriving so it has never even left the house in this time. I've actually only amped it up a couple of times as it's been mainly used as my "on the couch" bass and since New Year it has been relegated to just being hung up on the wall which makes it a very expensive ornament that I don't need really and the cash is needed elsewhere now.

Anyways it is a really great bass for the money and the neck feels lovely, really fast and slim with as far as I can tell the same dimensions as a real early 60's jazz. It has a real rosewood fingerboard and the Wilkinson hardware is absolutely bombproof. it is of course finished in the relic way which is ok for an instrument in this price range.

I did actually go shopping for a Squier Vintage Modified fretless when I picked this up but overall I found this Vintage Icon to be better quality all round. The tuners on the Squier felt a bit flimsy to me but they are heavy duty on the Icon. Something I knew I wouldn't have to upgrade. Also, the real rosewood fingerboard was a selling point to me rather than the ebonal on the Squier.

Soundwise it is very nice with the 60's spec Wilkinson pickups doing the job well enough for me not to want to upgrade.

A few things worth a mention:

Upon buying this bass I immediately installed a set of Fender flats which I always use on my basses and which of course protects the fingerboard from any roundwound snail trails as the rosewood board is bare (no boat epoxy here a'la Jaco!) although I did give it a rub down with some boiled linseed oil as it was very dry and thirsty looking when I got it. It's fine now.

Another thing I did was to take some very fine wet and dry paper and gently rubbed the high gloss face of the headstock as it to me just looked silly (the sides and back of the headstock/neck are reliced) and stood out next to the overall reliced appearance of the rest of the bass. looks better now I reckon. Also I did the same to the pickup covers (which were not only shiny and new but had two very stand-out chrome Wilkinson logos on them which looked naff to me) for the very same reasons.

There are a couple of tiny scratches on the back of the bass body that I must have done whilst placing it down at some point but they're only on the top coat and superficial and hey it's a relic so they don't stand out of course but I thought I'd mention them.
Also it will come without a case but will be packed very securely.

All in all a fantastic fretless for the money.

£150 for those in the Cardiff area or £160 posted anywhere in the UK (mainland)

I really like my 'Vintage Jaco' same as above, fantastic for a budget fretless, like it so much I'm not even tempted to spend more on something that won't even sound so good. Nothing to upgrade - nothing to worry about, doesn't even matter about a few knocks & scuffs. I've got Black Nylon GHS on mine & it has all the mwaaaaaaaahh you could ever want.

That was you! Your vid was one of the reasons I checked one out in the first place! Great playing man. :) Just goes to show you don't need to spend a fortune to sound great :)

Hey Oversoul.
I've had a few pm's from our Basschat Bredren in a few different Euro countries and unfortunately the cost of posting this bass to mainland Europe (£90 was the best deal I found with insurance - Interparcel) makes the total price higher than you buying a new one in Portugal. If you want to pay that much in postage I'll gladly send it but I doubt you would!
The only way this will be a bargain to somebody is if I post it in the UK sorry. Wish I could do better for you.
