bassintheface Posted October 25, 2012 Share Posted October 25, 2012 I've recently been offered a Squier Silver Series jazz bass for a reasonable price by a friend. I've known the bass for over 10 years - the current owner bought it off another friend of mine around 5 yrs ago. It's a lovely sunburst with RW board, Jaco style (no scratch plate). It plays and sounds really nice, with an awesome neck. What I'm after is a little bit of 'history' on these Silver series models and their general values. I like it and think it'll be a great backup for my 75RI CIJ Jazz - I've just added Fender USA vintage Jazz pickups, new controls (CTS pots), orange drop cap, new wiring etc and a Gotoh Jazz bridge so it now sounds even more awesome. Also, would it be worth putting the original Japanese pots and pickups from my CIJ into the Squier or do they have decent pickups etc etc. Cheers all. stinson Posted October 25, 2012 Share Posted October 25, 2012 I've had a few stock Silver Series Precisions over the years and they have all been top notch. I suspect it's a squier japan neck and random body- it's got a swimming pool rout so not able to jaco it up like you can. Out of interest what are the pups like? are they alinco or ceramic? [/quote] are they ceramic or alnico? I have what I thought was a squier silver series body and the pups sound amazing. they are ceramic witch disctincive slight rings on the tops of the pole pieces. [/quote] I don't know if they're ceramic or alnico? If you mean are the poles bevelled at the top no they're not. I notice your mystery Jazz doesn't have the brass grounding strip running from the bridge to the rear pickup which means it's probably not a silver squier. Are these your pickups? Alinco however.... has alinco magnets as the pole pieces - so no aditional magnet on the bottom.
