Mr. Foxen Posted August 28, 2012 Share Posted August 28, 2012 Cabinet is the bigger deal to determine how loud you go, kind of a case of pick a cabinet to go loud enough and and amp for the tone you are after, although some cabinets won't agree with the tone. Mr. Foxen Posted August 29, 2012 Share Posted August 29, 2012 With the tiny heads and cabs you can get now, I don't think there is any advantage to a combo over a head and cab, that is much easier to bring up to gigging level, and means you can take the head and borrow a cab on the gig. Lozz196 Posted August 30, 2012 Share Posted August 30, 2012 For a small and loud set-up, I`d take a look at Gallien Krueger MB amps and cabs. You can get the MB200, and a 212 cab new for around £500. There should be plenty enough power there for gigging, unless in a band with a very hard-hitting drummer. The cabs are reasonably light, the amp incredibly so. Musky Posted August 30, 2012 Share Posted August 30, 2012 Taking the "couple of hundred quid" budget literally, you pretty much limited to the likes of secondhand Hartke, Peavey and Ashdown. The MB112 might struggle a bit at gigs, but should be usable as long as there's PA support. Or hang on for a Peavey Mk IV and 2x15. But neither your other half nor your back will thank you for it. charic Posted August 31, 2012 Share Posted August 31, 2012 The BA115 operates at 100W where as the BA112 is only 50W. 100W is a bit short for live if you're talking about a loud drummer. Rule of thumb is "generally" around 300W How about one of these?
