Telling someone my Lakland serial number

Strange question but I've seen them blurred out in different adverts etc.

I'm selling my Lakland to someone and they have asked for the serial number, just wondered if there is any reason I shouldn't give it to them?

Cheers!

Assuming you know your bass and the serial number doesn't turn up anything random like it's been previously stolen at some time or that it's a different year than you think, then I'd see it as follows:

1) Provide serial number to buyer.
Risk: buyer uses it to clone your bass and this causes confusion in the future.
Probability: Low.

2) Refuse to provide serial number to buyer.
Risk: you lose the sale.
Probability: High.

Personally - I'd just give the buyer the serial number if he sounds like he's genuine and interested.

Agreed.

It's likely to be more of an issue with vintage basses of high value that 'could' be cloned and where the serial number could validate the instrument and authenticate it.

I'd be a little worried about being asked though...

What's to be 'worried' about? What could a potential buyer do with the info? The alternative (as above) is to refuse and that could indicate something to hide.
