I have seen one of these for sale and wondering if they are any good.
I like the look of them but have never seen one in the flesh and never tried one.
Obviously not an American one.
Made in China version.

Any thoughts ?
Is it worth a serious look. ?

Cheers
Dave

Is this the Classic Heritage Mock?

It'll be decent. These are neckthrough; very solid basses, albeit with a little weight to them. They do neck-dive, word of warning. Neck should be something akin to a Precision, maybe a little deeper in profile.

They're not bad basses, for the price; you can say the American vintage Mocks are the best of the breed - and they are, and I would snap someone's hand off for one - but you'd need substantially deeper pockets.

Does that help? Summary: not bad; look classy; twin-P configs make some real noise :)

Thanks Gusto
It is the classic heritage bass on ebay at moment. Black ripple and looks very nice but not having heard or played one wasn't too sure.
At £199 it wouldn't be a bad buy i think but depends on where bidding goes.

I may take a risk just to say i have one. They are gorgeous basses.

Cheers
Dave

Is this the one on Ebay? I had it under watch - I don't think £199 would be all that bad. I seem to recall these going for around £450 new/new-ish. You can always search the forum here for a comparison - we did have one go recently, but it had some real dings in it!

The Blue neck thru ST bass followed closely by the 1979 Bich 8 string (The trans brown Mock is the best, awesome bass, but because of it's history, I only play it as a treat, in order to minimize any damage potential :)

BTW, the Wave bass is RARE

I was going to say exactly this, but you beat me to it.
Rocking horse sh*t is easier to come by than a Wave bass.

A friend of mine has a Wave Supreme guitar & it's awesome.

Is there much diff between the 2 Mockingbirds when playing. ?

Yep, the quilted maple one is Solid quilted maple with a Flame maple neck, very bright sounding and heavier than the trans brown one

The trans Brown one is Mahogany wings and Mahogany neck, very deep sound

A good friend of mine has a USA Wave bass, and was good enough to draw round it for me, I have a USA Neck thru neck blank, just gotta get the inclination and wood to make the rest

I briefly had an NJ series Mockingbird - one of the models from around ten years ago, through neck, active, quilted top etc. The tone from the 2 P pickups combined was fantastic. Very, very growly. It's easy to see why Entwistle favoured that combination for so long.

Alas the neck dive was a bit of an issue for me and I sold it to a friend who wanted to learn the bass. Probably not the best choice for a first bass, looking back... :)

The current model with the cloud inlays seems to have the same spec. I'd love to get another one day and pop some DiMarzios in it.
