Dear Monster Lawyers...

It explains, in part, why Monster cables are so expensive. I'm assuming all those lawyers have families to feed/children to put through college/expensive sports cars to maintain.

I own loads of Monster cables and whilst they are great cables, I only bought them because Andertons where chucking them out half price 7 or so years ago. When they go belly up I will either be trying to claim my lifetime warranty or buying some nice new replacements produced by OBBM.

Ideally this is the sort of thing you should be taking up offline, don't forget this IS a publically viewable forum and Basschat ranks fairly high in search engines for many bass related terms.

I've edited the quote so just the facts remain, but it might be worth having a word to Syed (The Funk) too. I'm a little out of my depth on this one.

Oh, wonderful stuff. I would love to have seen the faces on the Monster legal team when they read that lot.

I would imagine that it was just business as usual to these guys.

You'd be surprised how often this tactic is used in big business to stifle the threat of competition. I have seen this in the IT business for the last 30 years. IBM's "Anti Trust" court cases ran for decades and Microsoft is currently falling foul of the EU rules relating to competition.

I'm not really in Monsters potential customer base as I think they are too expensive for what they are, but, while I'm not boycotting any Monster products, I will ensure that I find suitable alternatives.

This is the first, and last, piece of your alleged "intellectual property" I will ever own.

I guess I'll just use coat hangers from now on.

Funnily enough, me to - although I have already invested with OBBM :)

In the interest of fair reporting, I'm posting a reponse from Monster Cables CEO, Noel Lee in regards to reports of frivilous suits against name trademarks.

http://www.audioholics.com/news/press-rele...-from-noel-lee/

Please note, the letter was sent directly through their legal department. Monster admit to "4 trademark oppositions a year".

However, this letter does not deal with the cease and desist issue against Blue Jeans Cable and Mr. Denke.

Audioholics reported "Design patents represent nothing more that that: design. There is no technological content within design patents. The net effect is that Monster cable suing Blue Jeans is like you suing someone who copied the custom paint job on your car."
