my DB has at last arrived from Thomann, although i had to wait 2 weeks for them to set it up it has arrived almost unplayable with both the bridge & nut requiring attention, however i am still very pleased with the instrument as once setup i believe it will play rather well.
ok here a piccy

All you really need is a spare corner ;)

I've never seen a DB from a shop that wasn't owned by a luthier that had properly set up double basses. Even in large string dealers they are more often than not badly set up.
I wish the big music retailers would sort this out, but I guess it's just a case of money. it's just not practical unless you pay for one to visit the shop.

Us double bassists really have to suffer for our art compared to most other instruments. :-)

Neil brought the blue baby round to my place tonight.

What a stunning colour!

As Neil mentioned the action is too high but with a bit of work to the bridge it should be a great bass.

Even with the (unknown) supplied strings it sounds better than many more expensive instruments.

We tried the bassmax and it sounds promising direct into my AI Ten2 set flat.

Anyway I've offered to get my chainsaw out and drop the string height at the bridge and angle grind a bit off the nut :)

Well I've just reduced the bridge height by about 1/2 " and lowered the nut on the E string and tuned it up but I've had a little accident.

Not with the bass but with a breadknife, yes I've sliced a bit of my left hand index finger off while making a sandwich and I've eaten it.

So I can't play the bass just yet, at least until the blood stops. :(

Bass sounds good.

Oh no! I sympathise - I've got a cut on the tip of my index finger on my fretting hand, which means no DB and a limited amount of BG playing for the next few days.

Splattering blood on strings and fingerboard may look very hardcore metal, but it ain't fun.

Hope that cut isn't too bad and your finger gets well very soon.

Thanks, it's a slice off the side rather than a cut so I'm hoping I can play tonight.

Just got the bassmax fitted and done a bit more to the nut and Neils new baby is sounding nice and playing much better.

It's very good for a first bass, I'd be happy to gig with it.

Cheers Neil,

it's a bit sore but I'll give it a go.

Might have to switch to fender or ask someone in the audience to sit in. ;)

Attached are pics of work in progress and the finished bridge.
