It was a Status (not the same as now) Jazz, aquired from the Carlsboro' shop on Chesterfield Road in Mansfield Notts. I also purchased a Laney 100W head and a rather large cab (Leech reflex with something resembling a lidless wok as a speaker..... or am I not remembering correctly?). Living in a council semi, this made me extremely popular with the neighbours who still refuse to speak to me 37 years later. I am now rapidly approaching the age of 52 and, six months ago decided that now the offspring have grown up, it was time to do something constructive. Time to do something new. Try something I had never done before. Live life on the edge. I bought another bass (as Harley Davidsons' are prohibitively expensive). Age has instilled a certain ammount of caution. I had enough money saved to consider a bass with a headstock emblazend with the name 'Rickenbacker', 'Status' (the same as now), 'Fender', 'Wal' or even Squier (??). But, what if the cat gets sick? What if the washing machine breaks down? What if the wife gets us invited to yet another sodding wedding? I bought an Ibanez GSR200 and an Ashdown After eight 15W practice combo. Not exactly a gigging set up. But then again....I ain't gigging. I am enjoying playing along with my favourite bassists....Donald Dunn, Bruce Foxton, Nate Mendel and Les Claypool (who I don't actually play along with because my fingers no longer work that way). I hope I can contribute to the forum in the future. I have already gained a huge ammount of knowledge from the members. Thanks, Mark (from just north of Nottingham). Apart from finding loads of useful information, I have also had some proper laugh out loud moments. The very minor downside of the forum is viewing images of basses and rigs owned by other members; my GASometer now has a bent needle. ATB Mark.
