Where do I put my thumb when fingering?

Recommended Posts

I came to the conclusion that I didn't like thumbrests & prefer a fender chrome pickup cover to rest my hand on (like a cack-handed version of James Jamerson or Marcus Miller). On basses that don't have a cover, I just float my thumb, although I've temporarily blu-taked a jazz cover to my mustang to see whether its worth fitting one properly - not sure yet, but my initial impression is that it seems to be an improvement.

One of the things I like about stringing BEAD is that I can usually use the B as a thumbrest. When I play anything on the B I'll either float or anchor on one of the pickups - which one depends on the tone I want.

Perhaps I should have read further than the thread title.
Make sure she's okay with it first though? Might stop you getting the desired end result.

Or indeed trim some double sided trim tape to size (probably the safest, reversible way).

Another question; is it worth getting the extra pickup? Even just to noodle around with for different sounds? I'm buying new, so an extra £135 isn't that much more...
Dont use glue!

Especially it will ruin the finish around were you have glued
