Contemplating (only.. at present) selling one of my favourite 5's (still short of funds / other things not selling). This one is a Valenti J5 (other one is a Roscoe LG3005 here:- http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...st=0#entry14605 ).

Valenti Modern 5 String
Swamp Ash body with Natural finish
34" Scale with 19mm spacing at the bridge
10mm spacing at the Nut and 16mm at the 24th fret.
8.8 lbs. on the digital bathroom scales.
Wenge Neck with black laminate headstock face
Wenge Board
Nordstrand DC5’s Dual Coil pickups
Aguilar OBP-3
Black Hardware
Hipshot A Style Bridge
Hipshot Ultralites Tuners
Schaller Strap Locks

The bass has the following layout:
1-Volume w/p/p for preamp bypass
2-Blend
3-Treble w/p/p for Neck position P/U for Hum bucker mode to Single Coil mode
4-Mids with w/p/p for Mid Shift
5-Bass w/p/p for Bridge position P/U for Humbucker mode to Single Coil mode

This bass is in excellent condition. There is one small ding on the body, just under the volume knob. The neck is quite similar those on the MTD 535's, but slightly deeper. The Nordstrand pickups and overall EQ options are exceptional.

Thanks Nick / Mike ..

Yes, it's a lovely bass and the Nordstrand pickups (combined with the extensive EQ options) are something special.

I did have a very positive PM re. the Valenti and thought it might be sold: but the prospective buyer is now deciding between it and another bass ... so it (and the Roscoe) remain currently available...

Certainly... here it is: not a brilliant shot (.. lots of shadow...I'll try to take an improved one!), but it's basically a Fender type headstock (4 + 1 on the 5 string) with an altered tip (not unlike the Albey Balgochian 'A' bass design) :-

The Valenti is now also up on ebay (can't resist those 10p Listings Day/s!):-

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...p;rd=1&rd=1

For B'Ch Forum members I'd be happy to reduce by the ebay fees and include free (24h.) shippping, enabling me to end the listing early.

As requested (sorry for the delay) .. here are better shots of the Valenti headstock: one in-full (shows similarity to the Albey B. A-bass) and the other to show the very nice Wenge grain to the headstock side(s):-

I noticed that the title of your ebay ad didn't say bass so just thinking that may help. :)

I have 3 Valenti's and they are some of the best basses I've played, 1 is my main studio bass over a Rickenbacker, 60's Jazz and an Overwater. Just stunning basses.

Thanks 'Ste, hadn't thought of that ! (although it was only listed inthe Bass section).
Thanks also for the 'bump' and endorsement of these fine basses .. if the funds required come from other sources, I'll remove this one - I totally agree with your appraisal....

Link to ebay relist:-

.. I'm working on the idea of hoping for bids but removing if nothing significant prior to final 12-hours, which seesm to be be common practice currently.

Willing to discuss price with Forum members based on current heading.

Hi,

Do have you any soundclips of the bass? I'm looking for another 5, but don't know anything about wenge necks...Does it make a big difference tonally? And to the feel playing-wise.

Hi Nik

Thanks for the enquiry...

Unfortunately I don't have soundclips (or the facility for such) but there is somebody on the Forum (?..) who owns a couple or more Valenti's who might be able to help...

Re. the Wenge neck: if you have access to a Warwick then these are mostly wenge, I think (thought many tend to be a bit big/deep in terms of profile). MTD's also use them a fair bit.. but might be a lot more tricky to find/try one of these (!).
The neck has a satin finish which is very quick and much better than the Fender-5 'finished' necks (although the profile is similar - between an J and a P; not as slim/shallow as a J4 neck .. a more rounded/flattened 'C' shape).
The wenge provides a fuller-bodied tone than the all-maple, with greater warmth: but the slap tone is very clear and bright, plus the very comprehensive EQ and special pickups (with HB/SC choice) make for a wide tonal range.
Build quality on the bass is very high( as you'd expect from somebody working with/for Sadowsky).

Hope this helps...

I'd give my left nut for this bass - unfortunately it's probably not worth £795 (the nut, not the bass!)

Good luck with this!
