ok could be an idea. didnt think i would need it as im not using and active eq
Hey Nash,
I'm pretty sure that EMGs need a voltage of some sort regardless.
If you're wanting to go passive though, Jon's started stocking Delano pickups which are pretty nice, tried some on some older Sandbergs a while ago.

These PMVC4 FE/M2's sounded huge!

Nice spec by the way, only thing I think you missed is hardware colour, although I reckon black would look pretty nice.
Really hope this one comes together.

Cheers,
Eude

good point eude. i was thinking of black as an option. defs not gold though. i know ill need atleast 9v.

i have a plan. go with emg, get a double bat box and so then i can switch between 9v and 18v by just taking out one 9v and bridging the 2 terminals.

ill try it without the passive thing first then i could add one later on
Just watch out for his dog, a very lovable but enthusiastic creature.
Poochie's a sweetheart alright, but what you've really got to be wary of is The Wood Store. If you go in there, I guarantee you'll emerge blinking into the light about an hour later clutching a bookmatched top of quilted yam or spalted Venezuelan gnatwood or flamed canoe tree or something :)

So true!
Pretty sure that dog has been trained to herd punters into The Wood Store ......

oh that sounds good ...

Shuker shape headstock? on a P bass? Are you sure?

I'd get the 2 battery box fitted from the start, and enough cavity capacity to fit a bigger loom in the future, knobs etc ... You never know, yo may want to later and it's easier to get Jobn to do it now than once its got the 8 Mile Deep gloss coat.
You should put the double battery box alongside the one for your neck side LED's that you'll be gasing for after Tuesday eh Rich?

Also Jon will probably suggest it but get the body made a tad thinner for reduced overall weight. Mine's thinner (as are the JJB's) and it works fine.

I know you don't want knobs but why not get a mute button fitted somewhere subtle so you can mute it to take it off and put it on it's stand without worrying about feedback, turn it off to take the jack plug out silently etc...
Jon can probably fit a small slider in the side of the battery box (that's where my lights switch is. It's dead easy to use live.

sorry for the short sharp replies. im in work and rushing.

so yea defs 2 bat box and enought room for knobs etc. i wont get leds as want to keep the cost as low as poss. also to go with the tuner mute thing. when i do have my bass plugged in and not being used i flick my standby switch on my head aswell.

what i really want is a skin and bones pbass with a massive tone and heavy in weight.
the shuker shape i mean is the jjb shape.

i use my tuner to mute it. i only play 20-30mins sets so i never put it on a stand live.
OK re the headstock :) I remember great confusin with Jon and I over this subject on my modern 5 as he was talking about a "Fender style" headstock with a "Shuker shape" at some point. turns out the fender style bit refers to a straight extension of the neck wood - with string trees rather than the shape of the peg head .. The option is the "gibson stlye" that angles the headstock back using a scarfe joint. This has no need for string trees ...
and these two types can be any "shape" you like ..

Think about a mute, though .. easy to plan in at build time, a handy feature if you ever want to sell it on and it may be useful in 15 years time when you are playing covers in pubs if you don't ;)

Hmmmm, interesting thread..........do you think Mr Shuker could make 5-string classic bass with a fender style headstock ?

Would be good to meet up with you guys to have a mini Welsh bass bash - say in the next few weeks - I could bring along my US Glaub and bound and blocked Japanese P-bass for starters.

I have a Bill Nash 63 P-bass on order now (Dakota Red)/Tort pickguard/Ebony fingerboard and P/J config - could bring that along to another mini Welsh bass bash later in the year.

I like the spec of your JJ Nash - look forward to hearing it.......

OldGit - what pickups do you have on your JJ 5string ??

Cheers

That's my Shuker in my avatar - fender style and shaped headstock (almost)
Fender headstock can go on any body shape AFAIK ..
My P5 has custom made pups - as do the JJB's - made to Jon's design by a UK PUP custom shop. i didn't find out who.

Mini Welsh bash Now there's a thought ....

Ah, Crosskeys !

Do you ever go to the Iswyn Acoustic Guitar club meetings in the Crosskeys Hotel ? - Steve Lawson turned up a while back and did a great set - as did Nick Beggs on Chapman Stick. Not very acoustic I know but they seem to be open to bass guitarists as well as acoustic/electric players.

They have Adrian Legg playing the Blackwood miners institute on March 15th - one acoustic guitarist you should not miss.

Jim Lampi - another Chapman Stick player - is doing a gig at the Crosskeys Hotel on Fri 25th April. The url of the club is below;

Any way - yes, I'd be well up for a mini bassbash in your prac room. The more the merrier..........
