Okay so its not to everyone's tastes but this was the first time I ever heard the 8 string bass, however many years ago it was.

Ha - and when you get to 6 minutes in, that had to be the reason why I hit the bass like that when showboating. I had totally forgotten about that. Cor Blimey.

You can't replicate the sound of an 8 string with an octave. I bought a Pog for exactly that but it sounded shrill and terrible.

Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell nailed it when they sang 'Ain't nothing like the real thing'

If you play clean and simple then a 12ver is even better.

The Pog was the one effect that I badly wanted and ended up being the most disappointing.

Everyone should do this at some point but get yourself an 8 or 12ver, split the signal so the highs go to a dirty guitar amp and the lows to your bass amp and soak up the filth

In the words of the late, great Randy Savage - " Ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Yeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah"

Quite. Am definitely upgrading to a 12 string just for the fun of it. Will still keep the 8 though!! And yeah, signal splitting with an 8 sounds massive.....

I borrowed a friend's Micro Pog when recording our last album, I was so impressed with the sound I would happily use one instead of the 'real thing'.

Close enough for rock and roll!
