Hi guys
newbie here so go easy!
Ive been offered a 62 reissue MIJ fender jazz for £600. Is this a fair price? Im not too fussed over the condition cosmetically as its gonna get gigged regular although im lead to believe its in very good order. I dont know if they make em anymore so im not too sure of its true value. any advice much appreciated.

Though I admit it was a few years ago now (http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=3653&hl=Jazz&st=20) I sold my USA 60's reissue (with a John East preamp) for about the same money as your seller wants for a MIJ but it was as much as I could get at the time. Ultimately though it's a case of a bass is worth what the buyer will pay... if there is a buyer around! :)

It's a mixed up world though when JV Squiers can fetch as much as a USA P bass and MIM basses can be almost a grand new (not that I am implying anything negative about any of the former)!

depends..

there are roughly 4 ranges of fender japan...
the standard (basswood body)
the reissues (basswood body)
the "US" reissues (ash or alder body usa pups and usually if correct spiral bridges)
aerodine and the other stuff (it wont look like a trad jazz or p bass - you wont have a prob recognising it. (oh and there are two types of aerodine too!)

the 62US reissue for £600 isn't the worst price ever, if you like the thing go for it.
If it's not the top model don't- they tend to go for anything from £300 up to some folk wanting £800+ for them.

Fender prices are a bit crazy at the mo, they seem to be shooting up. Jap stuff is def going up, as is mexican and the USA, in the last few years ive see early 70's stuff shoot up in price, the 'crap' late 70's stuff become really collectable, and now early 80's is creaping up too. I paid a reasonable amount for my JV squier on here a year or two back... and now i see them on the bay going for double that over £1100....

so should you buy your 62ri jazz? want a great bass for £600? buy a early warwick!

wow what a minefield! I just thought there were 60's jazz (silly money), 70's jazz (1-2 grand) and the rest. I couldnt afford a usa jazz for 600 quid so i thought i would opt for a jap model - the 62 issue being a favourite, now i hear there are several types! This one was on ebay but Im sorry but i now realize it was advertised on this forum some time ago so it might not be fair to evaluate another members asking price although i still dont know exactly what type of 62 jap reissue it is!
