serialslacker Posted April 11, 2011 Share Posted April 11, 2011 Hi! I am new here so be nice! I am thinking of downsizing my amp from my old ampeg SVT4 pro to something more portable. My eye is on a Markbass little mark head, but I was hoping some of you guys could advise on which is worth the investment. Im looking at getting either the Little Mark III or the Little Mark Rocker 500. I play mostly rock and heavy rock, hence my interest in the extra gain of the Rocker. Could I do away with the need for my overdrive pedals? Is it worth the extra cash? What do people think? Does anyone want my SVT4?? At home it feels like every time I walk past the amp I have to pick a bass up, plug it in, and have a quick noodle. I know the markbass amps all sound pretty ace, and I have never used any Genz Benz stuff, so Im still swaying in Markbass' direction. As much as the tone appeals to me, I'm not sure if it would be my first choice for heavy rock, especially if you're used to the Ampeg sound. Not sure about the Rocker, however I have heard the the LittleMark Tube sounds almost exactly the same as the regular one. A bit too fizzy for me. Conversely, I thought the LM Tube was too subtle. I got a great Ampeg-alike sound from a LMIII and Sansamp BDDI, but then got a RH450 and sold both, because the RH450 does it all in one box. I'd love to try a Streamliner, although I've tried several GB Shuttles, and didn't like them enough to buy one. IMHO, YMMV, etc, etc. Volume-wise, it's fairly dependent on cabs, but I'd suggest most to of the small 500w heads would be plenty - after all, all you really have to do is keep up with the drummer, because once he starts going into the PA, so do you... Really, I'd suggest trying as many as you can, because everyone's ears are different. There's a few places around the UK where you can try most of the competing amps in one visit (Bass Direct being one I'm familiar with - I think Mark's got the Markbass, GB and TC heads all in at once) which is very useful for side-by-side comparisons. [/quote] Hi Muzz +1 for the RH450 I have the 3 memory presets set at: 1 Clean with a slightly lifted bass and trebble 2 Nice drive / distortion ( about 60% tubetone) and smidgin of compression 3 Mids scooped , bass and treble slightly lifted. Covers all my basses and even lets you memorise the gain setting for each just in case you switch basses. Lovely sounding amp , visual Led`s on the rotaries settings with.. a built in tuner...and a headphone socket for quiet practice wouldnt swap mine regards Keith M Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I tend to steer away from these buttons and gizmos, and have used my boss tuner happily for yonks! Plus I only use my P bass in live situations these days. Can't beat the old P! The Classic looks to be the same business as the RH450, minus the more hefty price tag... Just my 2p Eude[/quote] I was in a heavy rock/ metal band when I got the tube800 and the tone is fine for that style. Your right about the tube head sounding like the normal one but you can blend in the amount of tube preamp. All the way to SS it does sound exactly like the others, all the way to tube I find a little too wooly for my liking. 12 o clock (so both) IMO gives the best tone Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
