Please Help! Md/music Problem.

I'll keep this short and sweet.

I'm in the pit for a production of West Side Story and despite opening night being less than 2 weeks away, there's still no sign of the band parts from the music rental people.

It's entirely a delivery problem on their behalf but the MD is stressed to bits and I don't fancy learning the entire CD back to front or reading the vocal score, so I was wondering if anyone on here could help?

PM me if you can be of any assistance.

Thanks in advance :)

fine :)[/quote]
Which is kind of what I thought, but declined to say... :)
It's quite a challenging score I think (never done it) so I would def buy a cd and at least get an idea of what's coming your way.

This is quite normal, and during rehearsals leading up to opening night,
They then become suicidal.
You can usually help this along by supplying some rusty razor blades.

Use the time and listen to the CD and just get really familiar with the show.
Good luck with the show - its a great play with some serious tunes.

I would get the cd because it is a great show and being able to get a handle on the tunes is a bonus.

Or go to Spotify.

IME, its not that unusual to get the charts AT the dress rehearsal and not in advance. Its not brain surgery; noone is going to die....:)

'The Rumble' and 'Cool' (particularly the middle section) are probably the most taxing bits of West Side, the rest of it isn't too bad. As the others have said, get on Spotify and get familiar with the tunes - you might well be surprised at how many of the tunes are actually well known to you already.

And yes, the Dave Grusin arrangements are amazing, well worth checking out.

  • 1 month later...

Just wanted to add that the show went very smoothly and was feeling much more comfortable thanks to help from some fantastic basschatters (who you know who you are!)

Feel free to PM me if you find yourself in a similar situation :)

Thanks again wonderful basschatters!
