Buzz Posted January 14, 2008 Share Posted January 14, 2008 Not alot in it, mainly just they changed from CIJ to MIJ sometime in the 90's (I've forgotton the date). Common agreement on this board is that MIJ/CIJ basses from Fender have a massively higher QC value than MIM and probably MIA. Simply put, I don't recall EVER (inc on Bassworld) seeing someone saying anything bad about the construction and quality of an MIJ/CIJ, by the looks of it the bad ones are kept in the factory and burned to appease the Voodoo gods of QC. My CIJ Precision is just as good as my MIA Jazz. The general view seems to be that for consistent QC you can't beat the Japanese Fenders. Bassassin Posted January 14, 2008 Share Posted January 14, 2008 The changeover from MIJ to CIJ indicates a change in factory - originally Japanese Fenders were built by Fujigen Gakki - Fender chose them initially because of the quality & accuracy of the copies they produced under the Ibanez & Greco brands in the 70s - far superior to the US CBS-era Fenders. Production was moved from Fujigen in the 90s and subsequently split between Dyna Gakki & Tokai Gakki, although I think it's predominantly Dyna at present. It's these instruments that are labelled CIJ. All three factories have a history of high-quality guitar manufacture, and as far as I know Japanese Fenders are all very consistent, regardless of the factory of origin. Jon. I managed to get to a page of all different makes of used basses, but not new ones. If I want a new PB62-78US can they get me one? If you know what you want, (which it appears you do) then you are halfway there! That model is available and likely to be a colour choice. I believe they most likely is black with a tort guard, as it tends to be the favourite in that model. My contact there was called Hiroaki and was an absolute star! Fender USA find out they were exporting maybe? After all the PBUS models aren't meant to hit europe, hence the 'non export' models. (Only cos they're better and cheaper than the US ones he he he he he) However u-box and its search criteria works ok. (link halfway down the page) it's a kinda 'scratch and dent' site, put most of the goods are brand new and untouched. You only have to ask Ped about the Bacchus bass he had from Ishibashi.. was sssooooo sweet! Anyway, on the LHS of the U-Box pages are some search boxes.I found these for you after a very quick search. HOWEVER they are all Fender USA basses. Sorry.
