RICKENBACKER PORN

They’re always changing things. Been doing that forever.
It gives the fanatics something to obsess about.
I love a nice Ric , and still get a little weak in the knees when I see one. I do think the new ones are among the best they’ve ever made.

Owners of ‘23 instruments - is the V2 tailpiece standard now for all new Rics? Finally cures tail lift.

I had heard that they also moved to a single truss rod for current production. Anybody popped the TRC?

I think the old tailpiece/bridge assembly is discontinued.

Yep - the 4001/4003 has evolved over the years.

One thing I don't like about the current 4003 models is the shifting of the tailpiece away from the end of the body.

Another member of the family. A rather fetching and slightly rare Ferrari red 1991 4003 in near mint condition. Goes well with my 1980 4001.

Maybe a white one would look nice in the middle....

Note to self. Tidy the office room.

What about the knobs and jack plate? 🙂

Yep, you're right about the jack plate, as it has the serial number stamped on it.

The knobs are vintage type replacements from Rickysounds if I remember rightly, so probably RIC.

Thinking about it; the jack plate is the only part that is original to the bass.

Even the pickup surround is a replacement which had been rechromed. 😀

If you replace everything is it still a rik?

I'm thinking of Triggers Broom here.

Fortunately there's nothing too radical here. It could easily be put back to stock. Most of the changes are pretty standard replacements/ upgrades.

As the bass was quite beat up and in need of TLC when I bought it; I opted to put all of the bits I wanted to try, into a single project.

It still looks and feels like a RIC. Even the colour is an approximation of a special edition that RIC did, a few years ago.

Rickenbacker have changed pretty much everything on the 4000 series basses over time so, is a RIC even a RIC? 🤷‍♂️

Following @Madein1962's comment, I think that the jack plate is the only item which hasn't changed! 🙂

The slippers match the cuffs... 🙂

It is a great bass!

Of course. I’m a dedicated follower of fashion 🕺

I’m enjoying the bass so far.  I think it will get an outing next month.

As this thread seems to still be fairly healthy after so many years, I'll make a contribution. 1980 4001 with aftermarket black plastics. There has been some debate elsewhere about whether this is Fireglo or Autumnglo. I've always assumed its FG but AG seems to have almost been the same as FG at some points down the years, so it could be possible. There is no hint of brown in it though, and the red is a bit brighter in person than it appears in this pic. Great guitar though, I've owned it since 1989.

Not dissimilar in colour to my slightly customised 2013.

Cheerio Chrome flats. I've returned to rounds, specifically DR Highbeams. It's growling like hell now

That bridge looks to be slightly further forward than the standard Ric bridge. Is the V2 bridge smaller?
