Bass lines that make the song

Nathan East on Easy Lover (Phil Collins & Phillip Bailey). (Also a slightly-gullty pleasure, though it has been a while since I heard it.)
Tony Butler on Flame Of The West (Big Country) - this is where I noticed his Chris Squire influence, just a tad... :)
Danny Thompson on Happiness Is Easy (Talk Talk) - loved this long before I knew it was a double bass, or that he was switching between pizzicato and arco.
Tony Levin on Brother Of Mine (Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe) - some of his best Stick work that suits the song perfectly.

The Cure- fascination street

IIRC there's only 7 note pitches in the whole thing throughout, but it's the hook of the song.

Stranglers- nice n' sleazy

Joe Jackson- is she really going out with him (as ripped off by the Raconteurs)

The Cult- resurrection joe

Elvis Costello & the attractions- I don't want to go to chelsea
Wham - Wake me up before you go go
Also "I'm Your Man" features a nice bass solo (I think by Deon Estus) on the extended 12" version.

How about Faith No More - We Care A Lot? The bass line is the song! Saying that most FNM songs have great bass lines that (to me anyway) make the song.

+1 for most songs by The Stranglers - love the JJB bass sound.

Eddie and the Hotrods - The Beginning of the End - Paul Gray is a bass god in my opinion (said it before and will say it again).
