1. Welcome to Basschat. Be warned you may spend a lot of time here, and develope some serious GAS.
2.
Does anyone know anything about a Manson Kestrel bass?
The bass above is a Merlin. Here's a pic of me with a Merlin fretless taken some 30 years go. The green one bottom left is a Kestrel.
3. Hi Steve, come and meet us all at the Cardiff bass bash. Saturday, March 23rd. Check it out in the events section.
4. 5. If there's any chance the bass can be in Cardiff for 27th July I would love to use at a wedding I am playing at. It's my guitarists daughters wedding.
6. Hi just thought I would put a quick post here in case any one who would like to come hasn't seen the thread in "events" All details are there so check it out.
7. Hi all Just thought I'd ask you to say who's coming to the bash and what kit you might be bringing. I will have. Rickenbacker 4003 Tokai Thunderbird Epi explorer Tobias Toby pro 4 Sue Ryder P bass An unusual twin neck. Gallien Krueger RB400/15 combo Gallien Krueger Fusion 550 head / GLX 410 and BLX 210 cabs Moog Taurus bass pedals
8. It feels long because there is no long top horn for the strap button thus making the bass sit away from the left hand.
9.
I've not been to one of these type of events before - sounds like a nice social event. Just curious really but what's the kind of set-up for the day? What sorts of stuff do folk bring with them and how many folk turn up? Cheers
It seems there are no hard and fast rules. Just a nice social time. People can bring as much kit as they like and turn up when they like. My practise room is at the Church so pretty much all my kit is there already. Ideally you bring your bass rig with you. Plug in wherever is convenient and make some deep sounds. Meet the people behind the avatars. Try out some other basses & amps etc.
10. OK it's taken a bit of time to book it but I have had to make it the Saturday 23rd March. (Sorry Rich) The venue as beore is Park End Church CF23 6EG Llandenis rd. Map details below https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=parkend+church+cardiff&rlz=1C1_____en-gbGB479GB479&aq=1&oq=parkend+ch&aqs=chrome.2.57j0l3j60.11202&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Plenty of parking space in it's own car park and no major gasworks this time so access is easy. As before the venue is free, so is tea and coffee. (on a help yourself basis) Time wise I suggest starting around 2pm and going on to around 6pm. Venue rules are No smoking in the premises and NO alcohol. Although all is free I feel it would be nice to have a donations box, the contents going to the Church for tea coffee etc. For those that missed it last time. There are two rooms to use. A large hall where most congregate and a smaller room which is for more quieter kit!!! Mudmover, thanks for the offer of drum kit but we already have a few available at the venue. If anyone wants to bring a drummer friend or guitarist they are welcome. I will likely have a drummer & guitarist around but if more come no worries, more jam sessions. Pass the word around and let's make it better than before
11. Anyone remember the Electra used on Drama
12. He did an interview for Star licks which was released on video in which he goes through most of the basses he uses. There is an interesting extended scale Tobias 4 string on there. The video isn't a great watch as the guy doing the interviewing is really cheesy and Chris seems to be humouring him a bit.
13. No replies or offers I'm afraid so it's till on the back burner. I did however make these first but I want an exact outline and scale.
14. Just realised you want it for Android. Have a look at "Documents to go" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dataviz.docstogo&hl=en
15. I have an app called Documents2. This is linked to my drop box. I can then download pdf's from my dropbox. So I make a pdf with the songlist I want and download it to ipad.Swipe from page to page as required.
16.
You do realise giving these kids headless basses or ones with one too many necks is just going to trauamtise them don't you
Probably right. He's a drummer now!
17. Mine had trouble deciding which neck to play
18. Some of my kids gems a they were growing up. Driving on a long motorway journey. "Daddy please can we stop at the social services" Going into a department store " Oh good we can ride on the calculators" During a football world cup "Did the Japanions win"? Shrove Tuesday eldest son wants to help with pancakes, "Make way for the worlds greatest tosser"
19.
Personally I wouldn't attempt it on a 70s Ric without an expert, they are notorius for truss-rod and other neck twisting issues because the necks were so thin (hence the dual truss-rods that you have to bend yourself) is it a 4003 or 4001? Did you know that even putting a set of Rotosounds on a 4001 in the 70s voided the warranty? A huge disappointment to any Rush/Yes/Deep Purple fans who bought them at the time. Any other bass should be fine though, and a more modern Ric probably OK too. I don't want to scaremonger, it should be OK on any bass (I've done it on lots) but I'd hate for you to follow advice on here that could potentially damage such a valuable bass, no matter how slim the chances of anything going wrong.
+1 A 4001 Ric would need to be set up by a decent tech, though many who are decent might warn against this. I suggest you find a budget bass to try this out on first. I have done it on an old Westone and it's fine and great to play. I have a 4003 but wouldn't try it on this. I feel the neck is just too thin for the extra tension. In fact I'll trade you my Westone "BEAD" for your Ric.
20. More I have asked the mods to unstick last years Bash thread and replace it with this one, just to stop any confusion.
21. Hi all. If it turns out that the Church is free on 16th. Then we could all watch the match on our large projection screen and listen via PA system. I was hoping for 23rd but that seems a bit iffy for some. March 30th is out as Church is very busy over Easter weekend. If March is getting complicated then we could consider April 6th. Chay, I just DON'T do mornings sorry.
22. Posted this elsewhere on BC but here's one I made earlier.
23.
I would love to start a discussion about this frankly quite remarkable episode and its' dramatic yet unexplained conclusion , but I am too frightened to . There are powerful and potentially sinister forces at work here . For full melodramatic effect I intend to delete this post in the near future .
+1 It would be great to read the outcome and hopefully it ends well for all parties.
24. Wonder what the picture of the bass was described as?
