1. If you are after the ashdown sound, I would get a ABM head (much better than the MAG) and then get a MAG 410. When funds permit you can then upgrade/add the cabs and you will have an awesome rig. 2.
I love my rockabilly strings. I wish I could bow them. I use honeys as a 'nearly there' bodge, and they are also great.
Me too.
3.
I've now replaced the stock JJ ECC83s with two NOS Mullard ECC81s made for the MOD. They have made the amp perfect for me; totally clean on the high input, with just a hint of breakup from a passive bass if you really dig in using the low input.
Interesting, is there any difference in perceived volume?
4. More love here for the LB. Unlike the others I have a Barefaced Midget-T which is not very sensitive (& 8ohms), as a result it is quiet and thin. When I stick it through my MAG 410T and it sounds gorgeous rich, creamy & silky smooth. Through my old ABM 115 I was regularly having accidents in my trousers. Why oh why did I sell the cab?!?!?!?!
5. Indi - Rock - Folk - Jazz is the playing journey for me. Taste wise, I love it all except country & western and the modern R&B.
6. Try the floating thumb technique, otherwise rest your thumb on the string above.
7. I would look at Farnell http://uk.farnell.com/ and RS http://uk.rs-online.com/web/
8. Hi all. I boldly suggested to our band that we should cover Muse Hyper Music as I love it... and to my surprise they agreed! My first reaction was one of horror as the bass line sounds horribly complex... however when you break it down you realise there is just 2 chords. The main rift is just two bars of a D- run + 2 bars of C- run. The other bits are just a play on the D- scale. So by understanding some music theory, scales and composition, it has allowed me to put the rythem on a lead sheet together with the structure and chords. I was expecting it to take me days and in about 15 mins I have most of it done. I just need to get my fingers around the rythmic neuances and then I am pretty much there. I am no pro by any stretch but the the more I learn, the more I realise that learning more helps massively in all sorts of ways....! Yours smugly...
9. I forgot to say, everything is real except the drums. Recording drums at home is troublesome!
10. Our band messed about a few weekends ago and came up with this cover of Band Company. http://soundcloud.com/soundevelopers/feel-like-making-love Let me know what you think!
11. You could put them both on their sides to arrange the drivers vertically and watch the middle of the audiance wonder where all the bass has gone... http://www.astralsound.com/bass_pattern.htm
12. I recently downgraded from a ABM rig and slightly regret it now. I love the ashdown sound and will probably end up going back to it when funds permit. I had the Evo II 500, 115 & 410 and it was awsome. All that being said, everytime I pick the BFB Midget-T and the Peavey IPR1600 out of the boot a smile comes over my face...

14. Just did this last night on MuseScore... I am no expert by any stretch.
15. I agree with the OP. I had a ashdown 500W 410 & 115 and it was a complete waste of effort taking it anywhere. Now I use a pedal board (with amp & cab models in it) and IEM. There is a part of me which thinks big rigs are about ego and stage presence. That being said, my band has a 3kw PA and I have a smaller 500w PA when that is overkill, both man enough for the bass. Any big rig for me would all be about the ego... If I do need stage monitoring for the other band members, I use the new superb Peavey IPR PA power amp (3.5kg!!) and a BFB Midget-T. Now my cable box weighs the most out of my whole rig!
16. I got a G4M £800 "dog", spent £110 on strings and £180 on a setup / partial bridge carve and it sounds great. I bought it based on a review on here from a pro DB player, maybe worth a search.
17. Hi ficelles. I got one of these a month or so ago, here are my thoughts. It is great with the DB and ABG as well as being a stage monitor with the EBG. I put the whole mix through it sometimes and it sounds really clear and loud, good for me & the drummer. Light as a feather and it goes really loud. Works with effects really well and you can really hear everything you play. I went from a Ashdown setup and find I want to add loads of bass boost otherwise I think it sounds a bit thin (in comparison). It is hard getting used to a flat sound... Not gigged with it alone in at a large venue and would worry if I didn't have PA sub support. As for customer support, mine came with a massive rattle caused by the front grill not clearing the screws which hold down the tweeter. Whilst the service could have been quicker, it was sorted out by barefaced sending me out some more tape and me replacing what was there with some thicker stuff. Sorted now but worth remembering you are getting a hand made product. So to answer your questions... - Versatile? Yes. From acoustic set-up, loud rehearsals, stage monitoring and small gigs, it has all the basses covered (pun intended!). - Worth the money? Yes, but only for it's lightness. It is a lot of money! - Overrated? No. I had unrealistic expectations thinking it would be a one cab set-up. It is, but only if you have a good PA support in large venues. I would get a compact if you wanted one cab for everywhere and just accept the loss of top end.
18. My name is Richard and I am a gasaholic. I am gassing at the moment for a ABM 810. Completely ridiculous but I want it!
19. I got one of these myself a few weeks ago, they are impossibly light and ludicrously loud. I use Zoom B9.1ut > PV IPR 1600 > BFB Midget-T. I also use it for the PA subs when I am on PA duties and go IEM. Regarding your set-up, I would just run 1 speaker out of each channel. I guess you are best off with Aguilar GS-112 and Aguilar GS-112NT. What pre-amp are you running btw? Just curious.
