Cellist
Where are you? I have a MU directory that cover the UK! Must be some numbers in there!! Call a local teacher (see Google) and ask if they have any students who may want to branch out.
The band is based around St Neots so they would need to be able to travel to rehearsals there and gigs all around Cambs, Beds, Northants & Herts. We are following up Google and Bing leads but they haven't been very posative so far
2. Some great stories there... made me chuckle... Seriously though, jack the band in or kick the guitarists out. A quiet word with the Keyboardist and Drummer may reveal their real feelings… I have found guitarists are the easiest to replace...
3. As per title... I am trying to help set up a acoustic quartet playing rock and pop covers but we could do with a cellist. For some reason they can really add somthing special to a song you dont get with the normal bass & guitar type arrangement. Any help/advice apreciated.
4. Apologies for the mis-placed over used cliché’s there, didn’t mean any offence... I actually think the drummer is the most important part of the band, followed closely by the singer, then guitars, then keys & last is me.
5. We had a new drummer join the band last night after being a knuckle dragger down for a few months.... what a revelation! He can.. + Start and finish at the same bpm keeping a consistent rhythm throughout + Finish fills on time + Keeps a rock steady rhythm whilst meandering solos are in progress + Play slow and fast + Play quietly and loudly I was so much more relaxed playing and found myself playing around with the rhythm, throwing in runs and twiddles here and there without it putting him off. After our first rehearsal, I am the tightest I have ever been with any drummer. I'd say we have struck gold with this guy... and good drummers, whilst they may still be Neanderthals, are worth their weight in gold. This guy is for keeps!
6. Not wishing to patronise you or anything, but why are you using the tips of your fingers for pizz? My tutor always nags the hell out of me if I dont use the full length of my plucking fingers... and I always forget to keep position fingers 1 & 2 in place at the 3rd position!
7. Just on my way to look at a 3/4... for £2.5k... do you think I can get it past the wife... it is just a big violin after all
8. Hi all. My tutor has a DB in the corner of his room and yesterday during my lesion we had an hour on it... I have to say I really enjoyed it. After about 10 minutes we were jamming some 12 bar blues and I was really getting in to the swing of it... We did mostly pizzicato but I did get the bow (French) and have a go at some arco... Intonation was not as hard as I had feared as I play fretless sometimes so am used to playing by ear and position without reference... it is just a larger scale neck... Anyway... I could go on but suffice to say I am a convert and am scouring the internet land for my first DB! Regarding size... I used a 3/4 and it was fine... but being of slightly... ahem... bigger build would a 7/8ths or 4/4 bring any advantages or noticeable disadvantages?
9. Forgot to add, here are some videos of a friends party we did end of December: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_quer...+v8eol&aq=f
10. Hi all. I have just left a band a bassist sized hole which needs filling. They are a modern rock covers band and the set includes... Morning Glory Wonderwall Sweet Home Alabama Have A Nice Day Bohemium Like You Alright Viva La Vida America Human Sex on Fire 20th Century Boy Losing My Religion Make Me Smile Lucky Man By The Way Ruby Ever Breath You Take I dont think age is important (they are 25-45), they rehearse at Wyton near St Ives every Thursday. They are looking to gig come Summer time and have the odd thing lined up. Drop me a line if you are interested and I will forward your details on.
11. The hardest thing I found with Best of You is a singer who can get all the words out without collapsing...
12. Had some questions about my IEM setup yesterday at the East Anglia bash... so I thought I would wip up this quick visio of my setup. All of it (except the Zoom & Guitar) fits in to a tool box, which means I can usually do the trip from/to the car in one. Not gigged yet, but rehearsals are fine. Feel free to comment!
13. Hi guys, it was great to put names to faces. I was quite surprised at the shapes and sizes kit came in. From 8x5” to a featherweight 15” and everything in-between. There are also some nice guitars out there with some cool features and great tones. I am looking forward to the next one!

My First Gig

After raising a few issues at this weeks rehearsal our drummer decided to quit! I guess he couldnt take the heat... Anyone know any good drummers
15. I am going to bring most of my gear (except the PA) and will probably pitch up for 11ish. See you all then.
16. Balance is something I have been searching out for months! Tonight I managed to persuade everyone to go through the PA (including the drummer) and I was amazed at how bad we sounded. I am convinced playing f'king loud has been covering up some major issues with timing. What was also interesting was how 'dead' the music sounded without a acoustic drum kit. Hard to describe really but the music just seemed to fall flat on the floor as soon as it came out of the speakers. I guess that is what playing with a electric drum kit gives you, trouble is our drummer doesn’t understand dynamics and just plays f'king loud all the time. Back on topic... I use a moulded ear plugs (but used normal headphones previously) with a Samson S-monitor (http://www.samsontech.com/products/productpage.cfm?prodID=1696) wired system which costs about £35. My guitar is plugged in to the PA, as is the mic, so another wire for IEM is neither here or there. The main driver behind the moulded plugs was not to get rid of a stage amp but get the noise levels to my ear down to something less than 110dB+. With the 26dB claimed isolation (making 84dB) I am just outside of the damage your ears territory.
17.
I will phone the hall 2moro and check its still available. Then ill try to sort some kind of payment system out. Sorry guys I've been busy and waiting to meet the numbers.
I dont mind chipping in the other 100 if it helps.
18. I wonder if you could enlighten me... is this a good idea? Guitar > Behringer MIC2200 valve pre-amp > Behringer CX2310 crossover > Behringer EPQ2000 2 channel amp, 1000w per channel at 4 ohms Amp output 1 > Cab for top end Amp output 2 > Cam for bottom end All that gear can be had for £450. The only downside I can see is developing tinnitus within about 5 seconds of playing.... What am I missing?
19. I have got 50 or so songs to learn in 15 weeks for a big gig we have on. At the moment I am going through Long Train Running, Lucky Man, Disco 2000, The Riverboat Song and Mr Brightside... Believe it or not, I look forward to those easy 3 or 4 chord songs which I can learn in about 10 mintues!
20. Hi all. I have just bought this amp second hand off a fello Basschatter and have come across the following problem. All was well until I DI'd to the PA. As soon as I plug in there is a horrible hiss from the PA speakers. The volume of the hiss gets louder when you turn up the input dial. It makes no difference if anything else is plugged in to the amp, if any of the nobs or switches are at any setting. The only effect on the noise is the input dial. The hiss is only evident on the PA, the speakers are still silent. I have tried different PAs and DI cables so it is not either of them. After taking it out of the case, I cant see any bad connections or wires missplaced... Any ideas?
21. Dropped the amp to £140, cab still at £75 and you can have them both for £200.
22. Having tried this today with the ABM head I can confirm it is as described, sounds great and surprisingly light... Good luck with the sale!
